Default One Race Way - Wakefield Park

Wakefield Park in NSW Australia, has been closed for some time, and its opening is imminent - and will be renamed One Raceway.

Some corners have been changed, which may change the gearing we use on our Formula Fords.

Is there some program or App that will give some suggestion of what gearing may be an improvement?

We are scheduled to race at probably their first ever race meeting in September, so it would be great to get the gearing set up before we get there.

When I was an engineering student, work was done on paper using a slide rule. Some of those calcs involved determining the various forces in rotating bodies.

So a question for those clever folk, who were not looking out the window in the classes regarding centripetal acceleration:

If we accept that the maximum lateral acceleration of a Formula Ford is 1.3g, and if we know the radius of the curve, that would allow us to determine the velocity. Then that would give us some guide as to the gearing for that corner.

We are doing a site inspection of the new track on Monday, and hopefully we'll get some idea of the new corner radii.

Can anyone help an old engineer with the formula to determine the velocity?

David, thank you for that. That’s easier than using a slide rule.

I haven't been able to get any meaningful answer regarding dimensions and speed, but I did dig this out - a SIM rendering of the track.

Its been suggested that the track was designed by CAT. That is, its just gone where the CAT dozer operator sent it.

Is anyone of you learnable fellows able to give some sort of guesstimate on the speed onto the main straight 0.06 seconds. And also the end of the straight - 0.19 seconds.

By the way, if you watch the full length of the video you can see how it looks in reverse. It will be the only bi directional track in the country.
