I've had fun with this, and now it's time to move on to my next expensive hobby, boating. I bought this from Tim Brausse from Canada off of this forum in 2016. It's been a lot of fun and a great car. Easy to tow, I use my station wagon. I'm 5'10" 200 lbs and have plenty of room in the cockpit.

Thanks Sherman. Yeah, it was fun. Boating is fun too, and my wife enjoys it. We've decided our retirement will be on the water, and she just never really found anything with racing that she enjoyed. I like spending weekends doing things she enjoys as well. The boat is a '79 Viking, and it has twin Detroit 671's. There is plenty of wrench turning to be done, so I stay busy. I can only afford one hole to throw money into. Say hi to Toni for me.

    Default Not a Lynx B

This is not a Lynx B. It appears to be a Caracal D as shown. Zero roll rear suspension and shaped front chassis under the beams.
Lynx B had rearward traiing arms.

That was what I was trying to figure out as I am building a D right now.

Looks like a nice prepared car with many parts available from Caracal?

Some Bs were converted to Cs with the rear suspension, this does not look like that conversion but has the D front end.

    Good luck with the sale.

    Default Back on the market

The buyer of this car has decided that he is NOT nearly as interested in 'real racing' as he thought he was. So... without ever putting it on a track of any kind - or even driving it around a parking lot, he would like to pass it at on to the next owner at his purchase price - the advertised price at the top of this thread. It is currently located near Road Atlanta.

The current owner is NOT a 'racer' and has never been and is therefore NOT on this forum. If you have any questions about it, I would be happy to interface and answer any 'what about this' type questions and then put you in touch with the seller. You can reach me via this forum or by direct email Steve .. at WedgeRacing ... dot .. com.
    Thanks,
I'm not selling anything of my own, so don't have a 'Classifieds license' so I can't repost it again. This will have to do. A shame I also can't modify the original Subject of the thread since it shows it as 'sold'.

Not related to the formula car but more related to the towing car in the first photo.... What car is that? Im in the market for something somewhat future proof and a station wagon would be the perfect fit but people dont usually show towing capabilities on them and it would be nice having a car knowing someone else towed a formula car behind it lol!

The original owner's phone number is in post#1.. Call him and ask. I'd guess a BMW, but not very confident at that.

    Default Towing a Vee

I have towed my FV on the back of a 1970 VW transporter, behind a 1982 VW Rabbit pickup, moved up to a 2005 VW Jetta 1.8T wagon, and now a 2014 VW Jetta GLI. Never a problem with an open trailer and limited spares. 25 mpg towing!!

Regarding Today’s Too Cool Award, WINNER!

We joke that our ‘84 Westy would struggle dragging a chain, but we weigh 5,300.

It's a 2015 VW Sportwagen Diesel, manual 6 speed. I'd not tow anything with the VW automatic transmission. The car does not come with a US tow rating, however, the EU rating is 3500 lbs and the previous year VW Jettas were "Tow Vechicle Of The Year" several years in a row in the EU. I bought the factory Westfalia tow package from a British company and installed it myself. The V setup was right under 2000 lbs, with 175 lb tongue weight, and the car drove like there was nothing back there. No trailer brakes. I had to slam on the brakes in a downpour in Atlanta coming home from Roebling. The antilock brakes engaged and the car stopped, trailer intact.

It is a very comfortable tow vehicle for light loads. I'd get trailer brakes for anything above 2K lbs.

Volvo wagons come with a tow rating in the US. No manual transmission though.

LOL, this explains why I have a rash of emails from folks wanting to buy this car all of a sudden. I logged in here to make sure I had marked it sold.

Well, sorry to hear the man who purchased it from me isn't going to race it, but glad to hear it has a new home. It's a great car. Thanks for shepherding this along Steve, I appreciate it.

Thanks for the response! I currently have a 2007 Subaru WRX and they dont recommend much over 1500lbs so I dont do much more than a motorcycle trailer with a kart + equipment on it. But I do love the smaller form factor and mpg's compared to a truck. Ill definitely be looking in to that car! -Jordan

Just be sure you know your tow config. There are a lot of US VW tow bars available for bike racks etc, but those bars mount on the bumper with bolts in tension and are only rated for 2K lbs, and I think that is a stretch. Ok for loading a bike that bounces up and down on the bumper, but not for towing anything.

The VW has factory installed weld nuts on the side of the body for the Westfalia hitch mount, and using this puts the load into the 4 bolts in shear. There is also a factory electric harness for the lights, and VAGCOM to reprogram the car to accept the 7 pin EU harness. I'd never recommend using the US aftermarket stuff on the VW for towing anything, that's just asking for trouble. If you are serious about using a VW for towing, I recommend get the factory equipment.

My VW gets 50 mpg normally, with 35 mpg while towing. I think a part of that is I'm in a hurry to get somewhere while I was towing.

Honestly, I think the Volvo is your best and easiest option for towing with a station wagon.
