Since they don't have parts, are we waiting to ship our helmets as well?
Obviously we ordered but unclear when to ship. I don't think he will want 30-40 helmets sitting on his shelf either.
Anyone have info on this?

Guys we ended up w/ over 50 orders... (I believe CDOC might want to think about making a contribution to Apexspeed!)
Hey guys, I don't know about this "group purchase" thing. I joined the crowd and dutifully called in my order to CDOC, and was assured that I would have my 30ME by the end of the month for the double regional at GIR. Gave 'em my credit card number and even faxed back a very comprehensive release (which went against my grain). Then, I got a call from Rob asking to process the order but mentioning "back order" with expected delivery who knows when. So I said no thanks.
Then, I checked the saferacer.com website mentioned on previous posts in this thread. Sure enough, they listed ALL economy model units at $865. So, I called and sure enough, they had a 30ME in stock at that price. That was on Monday. Today (Thursday) its here on my desk at $909.11 delivered. How 'bout them apples? And when I asked the sales guy how long it would take to get more in if they sold out, he checked and said it might take up to a week.
first - good for you jim. second - interesting - because i talked with them in the middle of all the CDOC stuff and was told that the 30Es were much higher and they couldn't do it for the price of the 20s, which was the advertized item - my guess is they've figured out that a bulk deal was going down elsewhere so they gave you the deal that i was refused simply due to the competitive forces of business. also, elswhere here it was stated that there were some in stock [about 20 or so units of the 30 model?] at CDOC and those in line early would get them, the rest would get them as they arrived but the originator didn't have enough to ship to CDOC immediately.
everyone involved, if they have any business acumen, would understand that supply is indeterminate because as the deal was put together the total demand kept going up without restraint. [pun intended]
....and as for the week thing you mention........well none of us believe everything we hear - i believe you were told that - but that expression about "good intentions" could apply - some businesses will overestimate and others underestimate a delivery time frame question and then there's the people that understand the world is full of surprises so their answer would be an honest "i don't know"
all i do know is a few kind people here went to some trouble to put the CDOC deal together and eye thank them. now that the deal has closed out as of last week firday, it can be argued that the rest of the deal becomes a matter of understanding & patience & willingness to be a man of one's word. if time to the next event becomes an issue, then we should all be understanding.
here's to hoping none of us ever need to really be glad we were wearing one.
I applaud CDOC for their efforts. Job well done and good advertising to boot! They are 'on the map', if you will!!
All you nay sayers saved enough money to buy a box of tissues and a candy bar for that feel good effect!
Sorry, no love lost here. Got THAT T-shirt!!!

Hey guys, I'm not trying to stir the pot here, just to let everyone know what the current market is on these things. I could care less who I got it from. Fact is that I appreciate this thread for turning me on to the issue. However, while I might not have any business acumen, I do know that a deal's a deal. Why would I order one after being told I would have it by the end-of-the-month race, and then pay for it now to not get it before next spring? Might the prices actually go down between now and then?
For all I know, the saferacer.com deal I got isn't available anymore. I just wanted to post the development.
Jim- the Saferacer deal you got does not reflect the current market but rather the ineptitude of the clerk you were dealing with.
He sold you that unit for below Saferacer's cost. When I called Saferacer they quoted the same $1135 that everyone quotes for the model 30.
I am glad that you got one... thats the whole point.
there is a concept in business called a "loss leader" - how else did Walmart put many honest decent hardworking midwest family businesses out of business?
Like Ted Idlof mentioned, I also just caught a snippet of Sports Car Revolution on SPEED, where they had an SCCA tech give a quick overview of what they look for in personal equipment. I thought I heard him say SCCA was considering mandating some sort of Head and Neck Restraint system. What's the rumor? Which systems are being considered? Have I missed some discussion in FastTrack?

Rob, how's this sound?Quote:

Based on the deafening silence on the question, I've concluded that no one has heard anything. This fellow merely said what any of us would say in a general vanilla interview for the non-racing public. Since it's a a no-brainer that the HANS is the undisputed best thing to come along since the Snell Foundation, the question is really when it can be palatable to be mandated to the club racing masses. And, based on what I see around the grid, that still might be awhile.
Rumor has it NASA will require them July 06.
It will.Quote:

Good answer. Want to buy a Hutchens cheap? ;)Quote:

A Hutchens? No thanks....would not wear it if it was free. Unless of course there weren't any other options. ;) ;)
So Daryl, let's cut to the chase, what do you use and why?Quote:

I use an ISAAC. There are several reasons, without expanding on each and every one:
I like the idea of reducing load by controlling deceleration and not doing so by limiting position. We have dampers on our cars to control the rate that things move around, we don't merely have bump stops and droop limiters to keep things in a defined position.
The load reductions in frontal impacts are very large.
They offer some load reduction in large angle impacts...can't push a rope/strap
I don't need to worry about the belts coming off the device.
I don't need to worry about a device I wear getting hung up on anything when trying to exit in a hurry (head rest, window net, radio leads, drink tubes, cool suit tubes, etc)
I can free myself of the device VERY quickly.
I can use the same model in any car. I have driven Prod Cars, FV, FF, Grp5 Rally car... This would have required 2, possibly 3, different models of HANS.
At the time I started using the ISAAC, the HANS is the only other device I considered.
Hey Gregg check this out!! Thoughts?

See you at PRI.
Bob,
We would be very surprised to see a mandate from the SCCA take effect anytime in the 2006 season. The Club may announce in '06 that a mandate will be in place for '07, however. That timing seems reasonable.
As Jerry Kunzman noted, NASA will follow SCCA's lead, so there will be some lag.
There is a high probability that by then the SFI spec will change.
Re PRI, rumor has it that there is a social gathering of sorts set for Friday evening. Hope you can make it.
Gregg,
I have been on the PRI thing in the IT site. Hope we can hook up!! Race Rock Fri PM? A blast from the past for you. A new/old Sub shop is opening up again. Suburpia Subs. Hwy 100 and Bluemound.
Yum!!
Bob
Bob,
Sure, Race Rock it is. I don't know if anyone has set the timing on this, but I'm guessing it's going to be around 7:00.
Suburpia?! Hmmmm. :) You lucky dog, you.
Gregg,
7:00pm fri Sounds good. anyone else?
Bob,
After my above post I called Race Rock to see if reservations were required for groups. It turns out they do not accept reservations under any circumstances, which could be a real problem on a Friday night during PRI.
I suggest we either get there very early or try somewhere that will take a reservation. Early works for me as the place is just down the street from PRI.
Thoughts?
Gregg,
I'm for sure not married to Race Rock. If we can find somewhere else I have no problems with that. I just do not know the area at all and cannot make any type of suggestion.
Bob
Has anyone received a device from the backorder list yet.
I am not sure about the backorders from the group purchase but I did receive mine from Saferacer, (30 Medium 865.00, no shipping) that was on back order about a week) last Friday. I got in late on the group so called Saferacer, they offered the same deal. From the day I ordered until the day I received was two weeks. FYI Greg
I just got an email today that my Hans was shipped today and I ordered pretty late in the game.
I might be a little late, but is this deal still available?Quote:

Just an fyi for those that may still be waiting ( I think I was # 45ish). I recieved notification that my HANS shipped. Should be quite the sight at the dinner table this Thanksgiving!
Lee
I got mine yesterday. Thanks Sean for setting this up.
set up the HANS last night - i shortened the length of tethers from the frontmost edge of the metal clasp on the back of the unit to the tip of attachment part from the 7" that it arrived as down to approx. 6 1/4" - for the 94 VD FC it will be necessary to cut the head rest to half its thickness to allow for the HANS, otherwise it forces the head too far forward - ready for sebring thanksgiving weekend - also stuck the CDOC sticker on the car as per the deal - thanks to all - did eye just hear the five?
Hans Received Nov 22/05
Thanks Sean !
Got mine today. Quick fit has the shoulder belt buckles hitting the bottom of my helmet. Not good. Is there a discussion somewhere on what are the best belts to use with the HANS? (I also prefer non camloc belts.... they are much easier to get latched by myself)
Everyone:
I've been watching your posts and have several questions:
1.) How do/did you determine what degree (20, 30, 40) etc. to purchase,
and what is the difference between a large or medium?
2.) I drive a Citation FV that is neither a complete lay down like an old D-13,
nor a straight upright like an Adams Aero, so what would be the best choice?
3.) I barely make the rollbar compliance, and should I be concerned with the
compression of my head in a rollover etc..?
4.) I appreciate any advice you can provide me!
Thanks in advance!!!
Mark
Mark, Bill Styczynski was fitted by Dr. Bob Hubbard at the run-offs two years ago. He has a #40. It all depends on how you sit in your car. Check out the Hans web site for details.
Dave
Schroth Racing www.hmsmotorsport.com makes HANS specific belts. Several racers I know use them. Finding belts with a over center cam latch may be hard. Only problem I had with my Willians belts was the shoulder belt latches hitting the lip on a Bell Dominator style helmet. With a Bell Vortex the problem went away! :D
I purchased new belts from Safe-Quip... they have a set made for Hans users (SCCA legal) that are very well made and priced below (about 1/2) what others charge. The belts you would get now are dated 1/06 so they will be good until the end of 09!
and you are all very welcome!
