Fresh rebuild on George Montgomery engine and Tranny gone through 4/23.This car has been painstakingly restored back to original, a new rebuilt, correct, George Montgomery engine, rebuilt transaxle, rod ends, hoses, rebuilt injection, rebuilt and Dyno'd original shocks and rebuilt original calipers with new pads and rotors and crack tested etc..

The car was purchased originally by Salt Walther in 1991 and raced in one race. Sold to Dr Jack Miller 1992 who ran one race and then the entire 1993 season winning the Indy Lights B series Championship. The car was retired at the end of the 1993 season and sold to the owner of Harrahs casino where it sat as a roller on display until seven years ago when the owner died and the family raffled the car off to a guy in the casino who lived in Chicago who started the restoration and then sold the car to me.

I have a turbo Praga on the way

Out of my wallet league but wow that's a really good deal for that level of performance.

I remember one of these being 13 seconds a lap faster than my DSR.

Buick Indy Lights powered cars are insanely fast and yet affordable to run! And can still manage by yourself if you have to.

Asking for a friend... but does this car require an external starter, oil pre heater, etc like some of the other Indy cars? What does it run for fuel?

It uses air to push the onboard starter.
start procedure is; spin over until you get oil pressure, turn on ignition and start. Nothing exotic and it runs on 110. I bought this car for ease of use and low running cost to maximum performance without
needing a crew. Car has a fresh engine, transmission, slicks and brakes (4/23). Everything else is two years or newer. Cosmetics are a 9, I am pretty picky about the presentation.I live in a fly in neighborhood in Palm Beach Florida if someone is interested in a quick look. I am also willing to travel as far as Georgia to facilitate moving the car. 5617235812

So out of curiosity what are the weekend running costs for these? 2-3K, less? more?

I would imagine someone who knows how to rebuild an engine could manage servicing one of these without to much trouble.......not that the motor would be as stout as a professionally built one.

A full engine rebuild parts and labor approx $7,000.00 at 4000 miles and a 2000 mile rings and bearings interval.
The car burns approximately 5 gal per 1/2 hour of fuel. Tires are $2,000-$2500 for a set and last me a three day weekend. Brake pads and rotors are cheap at less than a grand. The tranny has been bullet proof, but uses the same gears as a Hewland FT200? I think, anyway it is a common gearbox it shares the internals with so easy to get parts and relatively cheap.

Actual running cost for me has been below $2500 per weekend for the last three years.

That is really very reasonable; I'm spending $1100 to $1200 per weekend on my Datsun or my F500.

I know people spending near that for Spec Miata.

with ~450 Hp @ 1,350 lbs! The pucker factor is high.

No doubt! I am curious if you have any performance data from the car in terms of cornering G force? It is probably 2x the straightline acceleration of my Stohr but I wonder how much I would give back in cornering with a car like this.

The fastest single seaters I've driven are a Super Vee and the aforementioned DSR. The DSR was about a second off the GT-1 and Formula Mazda lap records at my local track.......so not slow.

As mentioned I was blown away when Indy Lites car went 13 seconds faster on a 1.5 mile track.

Amazing car, whoever buys it should have a great time............if they don't there's something wrong with them. LOL

You comment made me look; the difference between these and a P2 car at Laguna Seca appears to be around 9 seconds a lap.

My car is more of a P1 car, but regardless, this car would be expected to lap in the 1:15 range at Laguna? Wow.

At the risk of distracting this for sale ad further, I think you might be mistaken - that could be a current Indy Lights time.

In 1992, the pole qualifying lap in Indy Lights at Laguna Seca was 1:20.911, so around current P1 & former DSR lap times.

I see nearly 2g in the corners and under braking. I call my self douche bag racing because I am just out goofing off and not racing. My
wife says I am merely going in circles fast.

I can't speak for this March 86A, but my Lola T91/50 is capable of 3G in cornering. Similar power/weight ratio, slighly more aero.

Had PFM before, it's not even close.

Mark, you would be correct. I double checked SFRs page and DSR P1 are within 8 tenths of the older Indy Lights cars.

I too would love to have this but I'd need to clean out one of my accounts plus sell my two current cars. It would also mean cutting the number of events I do in half.

This is such a gorgeous car.

Those times were also set by drivers such as Dixon, also with tires that were rocks and required tons of camber to help generate temps. In addition were set with highly funded pro teams with real engineers! These cars were improved quite a bit with the 97 version as well.
