Tire rule update for SEDIV

As another thread here had mentioned allowing the Hoosier VFF tire for CF in SCCA, I made the request to allow this additional tire option for my Division. I've been informed today that this change will be in effect for SEDIV for 2025.

If your CF works well on VFF tires, no changes required to run in SEDIV at any Regional race. I look forward to seeing more people out there and although I bought a new set of R60s earlier this year, I will probably only buy VFF for my CF and HF cars from now on!

An additional benefit is that there aren't any necessary setup changes between the R60 slick and VFF tire...unless you're Senna

depends on the chassis. Some are very sensitive to the tire diameter change in the front. I do agree that many can't feel that change, but many of those same people can't notice a spring rates change either. YMMV, but bottom line, the move towards treaded long life tires better aligns with the rest of the world and is in the best interest of the class. Good to know the band is still playing on the SCCA Titanic though.

At least initially, my thought was that this allows current Vintage racers to race more often in SCCA SEDIV Regionals without car changes. Fast Vintage cars on the VFF tire will only make that the VFF tire more attractive and encourage crossover, i.e. entries. More people means more fun!

VFF Tires are taller. Some rake, camber, and gearing changes may be needed changing to the Hoosier VFF tire. Read the beginning of Treaded to Slicks thread.

Will there be a separate class or will the VFF cars have to compete with the FFs on slicks?

Since this is SCCA, there is only CF and FF for Regionals. FF must use the FF spec tire and CF may now use either the R60 bias slcik or the VFF tire. There are no extra classes added for the rule change.

I learned today that NEDiv had the same rule change go into effect for 2024 so looks like we are aligned on the east coast!

If participation warranted it, I would love to see CF go to the VFF tire but unless we have entries using the tire, change is hard for many.

this is true..21.4" vff vs 20.375" r60 slick per Hoosier spec sheets...so "with no changes" front ride height increases by 0.5" min, and that changes rake, roll center, cg, roll couple, brake bias...and vff costs more (no, it doesn't last longer...same compound)...
do what you want, but if you require me to make a change away from the slick, you are pushing an active (as opposed to hoped- for return) entry away

The choice is yours if you want to run slicks or treads in the older car groups so you can run with a vintage group one weekend and SCCA the next and not have to change setup.

My VFF tires were less than $900. I picked them up from Hoosier in Hartford CT. I think slicks were priced over $1000. Plus no need to purchase rain tires. I can mount and balance them at home without dealing with the difficult to remove cantilever rears. Reset the setup, gearing and your done. Run in vintage or SCCA.

You need to come and run a FFCS race. You'll be hooked.
