For tracks you know, sit in your car, close your eyes and visualize your fastest lap.
For tracks new to you, watch an Indy car or F1 race paying special attention to the full lap in car cam shots.
Odor of race gas and hot frame tubes enhances the experience.

All of the monitors are made in various FOREIGN countries.. I just SEARCH for the best price for the SIZE I want to buy and buy it. All of them seem to be pretty equal unless you have serious concerns about the "look" of, say PLASMA, vs normal screens. Plasma WILL cost you more but provide really very little additional DETAIL from the standpoint of racing.. it's mostly about 'depth of colors/shades' which mostly don't matter for racing sims.
Just buy the cheapest thing you can find.. if you are really concerned, you can also buy the "warranty" that is available for most online purchases.
I've gone through 'quite a number' of monitors over the years, but IMHO, ALL of them have offered acceptable value for the $$$.
