Sold! Hope the new owner enjoys the car!
2014 Elan DP02 IMSA Lites prototype. Roughly an LMP3 class recent historic race car. Running in NASA, VARA eligible, SCCA P1 eligible and chassis is capable of winning with body and engine upgrades. Mazda MZR (or Duratec) motor, Hewland FTR 6 speed transaxle with paddle shifting to improve performance and life. MoTeC C125 dash with I/O, datalogging, GPS, and pro analysis licenses. Car has been gone over, rebuilt transaxle, troubleshooting on motor, replaced leaking fuel cell, bodywork gone over and repaired as needed, new wrap, fire system recharged, new belts, and many minor components rebuilt or replaced as needed. Full records of going over the car are provided. Receipts over last two years total over $40k of work. The car is in quite good shape. Work done by Ian Lacy Racing in Tooele, Utah. 13 hours on Elan Power Products engine, 7 hours on gearbox since last rebuild. Three sets of wheels and limited spares included.
No known remaining mechanical issues. Needs fresh tires, what else is new. Recently identified wiring/sensor issues (related to the MoTeC upgrade parts): dash/data recording data not valid for (1) front brake pressure, (2) oil temp, and (3) one of the rear shock pot sensors. Regarding (2), the oil pressure and water temperature sensors work, and the car is always warmed up properly.
The Multimatic dynamic shocks are simply excellent. The car shares some parts with the Pro Formula Mazdas, and that makes it easier to get tires and spares, and it can be run at a fairly low cost if the motor is intentionally rebuilt conservatively (Elan can rebuild it at this power level with 100 hour rebuild intervals). For SCCA or just overkill, the motor can instead be rebuilt at 2.3 or 2.5L or replaced with Duratec builds with outputs just over 300bhp, and Zebulon offers a (~$50k) full carbon DP02 body with updated aero to replace the current fiberglass body, adding downforce and reducing weight and drag. Also, very safe - the car meets FIA F3 safety standards including rollover and side anti-intrusion. This is an excellent race car.
I have a fair bit of notes and collected info about the car that I can append here or simply provide to the buyer. Ian Lacy Racing can talk about the car with you, and they talked with Kevin at Comprent on occasion and had him assist in a few things such as rebuilding the steering.
For sale because we’ve made a big shift and decided to move our family to Oahu Hawaii instead of building a home here. They don’t have any racetracks on the island, and I don't want to own a car to do fly in and out arrive and drive racing. I also have a one, five, and eight year old, and I want to spend more of my time/energy/money with them while they are young. At least surfing will be cheaper than auto racing!
IT WAS A NON Refundable Deposit after all.

Sale fell through, the likely buyer’s spouse had a different idea, car is back up for sale! I’ll send a PM to the two people that reached out while it was pending.
I am surprised that the seller would make a public comment about my wife having a different idea about the car purchase when he is completely unaware of my personal situation.
I had an accident in 2015 that injured my cervical spine, which was related to my flights in a high G environment in the F16.
after 8 years of rehad and hard work I have improved my health status and had the desire to return to racing before I simply got too old to race.
The seller and I had great conversations about the car and what it had to offer but I had no reason to mention my disabilities or health struggles and that this was a way to close out unfinished business.
The Lady would push me through the tough times certainly has the right to have a say in a car purchase especially when she envisions wheel to wheel racing as a way to sustain
Another cervical injury. After careful thought, I sadly agreed with her and withdrew my option to buy the car which I had placed a refundable deposit on 7 April 2025.
On 7 MY 2025 I contacted the seller telling him that I would had decided against buying the car and that I while I hated to not purchase the car, I had to support my wife's concerns.
My wife manages or finances after my accident in 2015, and she felt justified in asking for the $500 deposit she felt was refundable.
Much to my surprise John Taylor the CEO of a tech company in Farmington , UT wrote an offensive letter to my wife about how she had stopped the sale and wasted his time. Neither of us like to
Mention my disabilities or use them as a reason for any decision so she never felt that the request for the deposit was out of line. I really felt the Mr Taylor was a stand up guy until he attacked my wife in a email, in a way that is frankly unforgivable.
If I had know he would be rude and offensive to the person that has saved my life over the last 8 years I would never let her know his email but I think if Mr Taylor has the audacity to mention my wife in his sales ad,
Then the racing community should know who they are dealing with and ensure that the purchase of the DP02 is done with a sales contract and everything in writing. The seller does not understand the value of a handshake.
I am truly sad about the missed opportunity at owning a DP02 but my wife and my relationship are far more important than any race car, airplane or boat in existence. Dealing with the seller makes me realize that I need to close this chapter before it begins because
Life is too short to deal with nasty low integrity humans. John Taylor was able to sell the car with in 24-48 of me declining the purchase so I don't understand his harsh remarks to my wife. If anything he cut down the time to sale by weeks once I dropped out. Congrats to the new buyer. I hope your $25,000 deposit is in a written contract in the event you can't follow through.
