Osella Prototype for P2 ?

My Friend is selling his 2017 Osella CN Sports Prototype
The Osella’s are very popular in European Circuit and Hill Climb Racing and finish alway on top together with the carbon tub Norma’s 20 FC although they have a tube frame chassis. Osella is a small Race Car manufacturer in Italy with F1 Heritage building high quality prototypes.
I think the car would be very competitive in P2 with the Honda K20 and Sadev Transmission would it qualify as a spec line CN car correct ?
What’s your thoughts on a car like this for P2 ?

If the car is strictly built to CN specs it could (or should) qualify as a CN car in P2. Two issues, weight (1,500 lbs. minimum) (I am going to guess the car is heavy) and secondly for P2, you must run a 50mm restrictor...
If the car is in the USA already, you should arrange for a test to see where it's at...

The SCCA recently altered the rules for P2 cars. They no longer allow for cars that have carbon fiber skins on the chassis. But you may get in as a spec line car. I would check with the SCCA about this.https://www.apexspeed.com/forums/att...d=108017&stc=1

You should be fine with carbon bodywork. Lots of P2 cars (Stohrs, etc) run carbon bodywork.

It’s weird how SCCA writes the rules to keep the cost low in P2 they don’t allow carbon panels on a tub frame car but you can have a very expensive full carbon body on a Stohr ???

You need to understand, it's the difference between bodywork vs. structural components of the core frame/chassis. Bodywork, the panels than hang on the outside - no problem, and at this date you'd probably be hard-pressed to find a P2 without.

But use as all or part of the load-bearing core chassis/frame structure, tightly restricted.

Your friend's car would be nearly $85,000usd landed in the US - you can buy two P2 Stohrs for that and still have some money left over. /rolleyes to "woe is the expensive Stohr being allowed but this cheap CN prototype is being excluded"

i don’t think you get my point here I never said the Osella was cheap but there might be people willing to spend extra money for having a very unique / high quality prototype with a automotive Honda engine

not everybody thinks a prototype with a formula ford style frame and a bike engine is the superior prototype because it fits the SCCA rule book best

Still if SCCA won’t allow carbon on chassis for economical reasons why is a very expensive full carbon body allowed in P2 ? They can’t be cheap to make…

Cheap to buy, you mean - no.

Cheap to make - yes, relatively. Not that many do.
