Anyone have experience with converting to this distributor? Pegasus has it for under $300.
Not knowing how old my current dizzy is it more logical to go this route rather than converting the old dizzy to electronic?
Thanks in advance for looking.

John, I've been running Pertronix products for years in all my classic cars with no problems. Unless your distributor is worn, I would just install the kit to convert. The key to running Pertronix is to also install the matching coil. Not doing to so will result in failure of the unit.
I would suggest against it, and I think a thorough search will return many similar stories of unexpected pertronix failures on race cars. Works in the garage/morning warmup, dead when pulling to grid.
On my kent I received the car with pertronix ii distributor already fitted. After many failures with the ignitor, smart people suggested I switch to the XR700 optical triggered ignition. I was unsuccessful finding a donor bosch housing, so I attempted to retrofit the XR700 into the pertronix dizzy. It worked fantastic and was one of the best things I ever did. Post 16 in this thread shows pictures of the completed swap. Pertronix unhappiness (apexspeed.com). I matched it with an epoxy filled pertronix coil of appropriate resistance (NOT the same as the Pertronix ignitor match).
So my vote would be the FAST XR700
