Repacking CV axle and correct orientation of /CV joint
Hello
I am going over my new to me FM and was replacing the CV boots and figured it was time to repack the bearings while I had it apart. I thought I put it back together the same as I took it off but after watching some VW axle rebuild videos I am beginning to 2nd guess how I put the joints back together. Could someone possibly chime in and let me know if I messed this up, Youtube has several opinions as to the correct orientation.
On the wheel hub side or gearbox side (circlip side), I installed the beveled side of the cage, the flat side of the splined inner and the deeper grooved outer race
On the CV boot side, I installed the flat side of the cage, stepped splined inner, and less grooved outer.
Is this order correct? Does it matter? I have seen at least 3 other combinations on YouTube
Also, if anyone knows any FM people in the Denver area, I would love to make contact and see what you all are running for gearing at our local track HPR
Thanks
Marty
Both Joints Plunging question
Did you ever get an answer on what happens if both plunge, and conversely, what if you assemble two non plunging units on the same axle?
