Hewland Mk6 Oil fill
There are 2 plugs in the top and 1 in the side. The manual says 2 pints, half in each top plug. I could drain the oil and add 2 pints, but is the side plug a fill level? The plugs take a 11/16" and a 9/16" hex wrench. Can I get a socket with a hex extension that will work easier than a hex wrench? Thanks

Yes. There is a "connection" internally from the R & P and the gear case and it takes a while for the cold gear oil you put in to get into both cavities.

NO !! The "full" oil level is about 3/4" BELOW the bottom of the side plug.

I believe that all three plugs (sometimes seen on MK5 & 6) are the same thread pitch and size......and also a MK9 also which with those later cases have only 2 plugs and all plugs are Metric. Common plugs use a 17mm hex wrench. I have seen earlier plugs with 14mm hex. There is a very short (1 inch long) 17mm male hex to 3/8" female adapter, and try tool stores or VW shops for the tool and also the 17mm hex plugs and put a strong cylindrical magnet in the plugs.
