looks good. Apparently is was so interesting for the driver of the light blue car, he just couldn't take his eyes off it.:D
My first impression (with apologies to the driver of #18)... ;)
It must be a movable aerodynamic device, setup to reduce drag on the straights, without requiring the driver to move his knee.
Paul
Finished first in the race Sunday. Rumour has it he was DQ'd due to the width of that fine little aero device.
Who developed the wing? How far was it over the allowable limit?
Some one has been watching F1...;)
I didn't trim the rear gurneys enough, and forgot to remind Keith to check them... :mad:
With them trimmed, he'll not only be legal, but even faster! :p
Finished P2 in Sunday rain race after 1st lap contact and spin. Scored in P3 due to tech issue with gurney on endplate <1cm over.
-William
I should also add that for a 1st out prototype piece this wing was solid and impressively finished, and gave no "unexpected" results minus the measurement, which was missed on this coast as well:)
Thanks Stan and Rennie!
Sent from someone's (William?) iphone... :D
Yeah, I got that nasty feeling in the pit of my stomach when I got the text from Will that we were over the maximum width on the rear wing. So, our public and profuse apologies to Keith for nearly delivering a disqualification in a neat little bow...
I was a bit horrified at first, knowing that we'd double and triple checked the dimensions of the assembly in CAD prior to proceeding, but luckily it is simply a matter of cutting down the Gurneys on the endplate trailing edge down to their proper size. Yeesh... embarrassing, but easily correctable.
More eye candy from the paddock, via Will:

I can attest that this set up definetly produces water spray. Keith had the largest spray of everyone. Great job by him and Chuck to run that race on slicks...kinda silly though. It was really wet.
My understanding is that Keith Roberts did not have rain tires so Chuck Moran was a true sportsman and went out on slicks too. Chuck had a set of sticker rains in his paddock.
Keith told me that the Dauntless wing worked so well that rain tires were no longer necessary.........:ha:
Interesting placement to enhance 'pumping' the diffuser. :thumbsup:
Those pictures explain why I love Formula classes versus 'spec' classes.
I'd love to have one just because it looks so cool, even if it wouldn't work well fighting the turbulence off Reynard rockers.
I'm afraid the price would put me in shock. :o
Thanks Frog,
The lower wing is definitely aimed at working with the diffuser - now, if only somebody would come up with a diffuser that matches our wing package! :D
The prices might not be quite as shocking as you imagine... Drop me an email, would be happy to forward you the current price list for everything.
JR2 - despite making quite a bit more downforce, Keith reported actually going 2mph faster down the straights with the new rear wing. With such limited track time, it's tough to draw any concrete conclusions, but very positive first outing for sure.

How much does it cost say set up to mount to a Staffs Box?
Not that I would be purchasing one until my finances improve (get reemployed)
Steve,
Sorry to hear about your job situation! Hate to see fellow racers sitting by the wayside...
Cost for a Staffs mount is the same as for the Hewland, just different bolt hole spacing and placement for the mount plates. Drop me an email (rennie@dauntlessracing.com), I'm happy to send you the current price list.
Cheers,
Rennie
Prices are very fair compared to all the available packages, Daunltess , Radon, Pennon , Elan. Pick your poison and go test.
Rennie;
Thanks for the quick reply and information. I would like to see a couple more weekends on the wing though.
Say, will this mount directly (read: no monkey business) to the garden variety RF-94/95. I need all the help I can get, both on and off the track!

One more word on aero effectiveness. The driver of #18 reported that during one practice session he and Keith came out of T7 pretty much together and went down the back straight as he watched Keith slowly pull away. He felt that it was purely a result of aero. Nice work.
No extra charge to mount to a Staffs. We have two of them here and will happily adjust the mount tab spacing to accommodated pretty much any gearbox's needs.
Rick, the default wing mount tabs are designed to bolt up to an LD-200, so all you might have to change compared to later RF models is the height and setback to match your diffuser.
Stan
Stan;
So what you are saying is that I have to stand in the corner for a few minutes and think about this, right?
As I am not an aeronautical engineer, the mere utterance of height and setback to match your diffuser sends shivers down my spine. Advice?
Iverson
Stan;
I guess I need the procedure for this. How does one make these determinations?
Now we're not talking basic clearences here, are we? I think Gyrodynamics sells taller and longer mounting plates, but there must be some method in determining the correct loci with reference to the diffuser.
Iverson
Rick,
What Stan means to say is: we will work with you to ensure that we can supply you with mount plates that will bolt on to your car and place the wing assembly correctly, regardless of the type of transaxle and / or diffusor you have on the car. Leave the head scratching and befuddlement to us... :D

Rennie
