First, the Pacific Majors weekend should see a significant increase in formula car entries this year as both USF1000 and NWFC have this event on their schedules. Everyone should be looking forward to seeing a whole bunch of cars with wings and without fenders. For USF1000, drivers can look forward to their own separate feature race with a standing start. This special feature race should be a big draw to those with F1000’s and I encourage as many of you who can make it to the event to do so.
Additionally, I want to encourage a bit of friendly rivalry between USF1000 and NWFC. So my own personal challenge goes out to these two groups to see which can get more cars to the track for Memorial Day Weekend at Pacific. If both groups make a concerted effort to get to the track there is no reason why there shouldn’t be over 30 cars combined between FB and FC, and mark a significant regeneration of open-wheel racing in the Pacific Northwest.
Furthermore, as NWFC members are already aware, the signature weekend of the FC season in the northwest is the following weekend at Spokane. This weekend has proven to be the best attended FC event of the year in the region, and has drawn a big field from other open wheeled classes as well in past years. The combination of cost, track time, competition, viable passing zones (5 under braking per lap plus two long WOT zones), and event organization has made this a highly desirable event that many drivers attend year-over-year. I want to take this space to invite any and all open wheel and sports racer drivers that may be attending the Pacific Majors event to also attend an event that has appealed to many in the past, but doesn’t have nearly the fanfare outside of the northwest that the SCCA majors series has. I have heard from a few FB drivers already who anticipated coming to Spokane last fall and would love to have more competition this spring.
Pacific Majors: May 24th-26th (test and tune on the 23rd)
Spokane ICSCC triple: May 30th-June 1st (test and tune on the 29th)
For those who need to fly home in between events, or just need a place to park in Spokane for the three days in between events, Greg Coffin can park many vehicles at his house near Spokane. His house is approximately a 5 hour tow from Pacific Raceway, 25-30 min from Spokane County Raceway.
