Default New style wheels vs Old ones

I am new to the FM's and will prolly be in the market for another spare set of
wheels before to long. I noticed in one of the latest post of some wheels for
sale Moses ask was it new or old style.
I posted here in case some other newbies didn't know instead of just calling
or pm'n Moses. Thought it might be interesting to get this thread going as well
to hear some of the opinions on the subject.
So here we go guru's what is the difference in them and how can you tell which
ones are which. And which ones are the preferred and why?????????

Thanks,
John

Default New Style vs Old Style FM Wheels

New Style vs Old Style

New Style - Originally silver in color. Closed web design.

Old Style - Originally gold in color. Open web design. Because of age should be inspected periodically for cracking usually on the inside of the wheel.

Both new and old wheel styles are a magnesium alloy wheel and care should be taken when attempting to sandblast or chemically treat for coating. Many wheels have been coated in different colors and as such, color alone should not be used to determine whether the wheel is old or new style. The attached pictures show the difference in the web configuration and the original colors.

BBS and Formula Mazda recommend that new Bolts be used each time a wheel is taken apart and reassembled.

Default

Thanks my man, very well said. I will check mine before I run again since mine are the old
ones, still in gold but I have cleaned them pretty good and didn't notice any cracks but
since it is an issue I will certainly address it.

Thanks again,
John
