Since it's so darn hard to get any info on the new Indycar website, I thought I'd post the qualifying results here:

I know Barber is Uber-anal about making the place look good, but do they sod the whole freaking track in the off-season? I can't believe the divots the DP cars are digging up. Not real safe.....
Always amazing to me that these "Big" race series with large staffs of PR folks can not hold a candle to Monty's coverage of F2kCS and F1600CS events.
By himself he just blows their coverage away. Live coverage, almost instant online results of each session, photos from the Valets and Mrs Frog....
Maybe the big series need to go to school and watch Monty for a while. Of course then they would have to bust ass, and not just sip wine in the media center.
OBTW, Barber probably makes more charging the teams for "damaged sod" and scuff marks on the guard rails, than they make on the initial track rental.
Still, all said and done, one fantastically pretty road course. A great race couse for small bore cars. Been trying to talk Rand into going there for 6 years.
Basically interstate access, no quiet hours, 1000s of hotel rooms, 10 miles to an international airport. Not like Lame Rock or Mosport. The whiny Yankees just don't want to drive that far.
Name has changed boys & girls like many other tracks around the world...no longer is it Mosport. Now it is the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park or CTMP for short. All good to have a corporation put their name to such a great track & want to be involved. Track was sold a year or so ago to local investors including Ron Fellows. They have been spending a ton of money updating the facility & will continue to over the next few years.
The cars are what they are for at least this year. Hopefully next year they will look better.
There are a lot of interesting drivers this year. Hinch is showing what that car has been capable of for years. Newgarten is looking really good. Castoneves is reborn with this new car. Conway is making Foyt fast again. Power is always fast. Pagenaud is fast. Viso is looking tons better. Rubens is finding out how good these guys are. Bourdais is showing the speed is there even with a lotus.
Marshall Pruet for speed is rapidly becoming my favorite motorsports writer.
Yesterday sucked with the stupid red for Hunter-Rhey. At least they should stop the clock on the session when the red comes out. Power really got hosed. Maybe they won't sit around waiting for the last few minutes of the session next time.
Even though I think the new car looks ugly, I have to say that the race at Barber was one of the most entertaining that I've seen in quite awhile. I don't get NBC Sports channel (versus) so I had to go to Hooters to watch it.
As for Katherine Legge. How do you spin when you're running at the tail end of the field? I'm sorry, but she's going to be at the tail end all season, and it ain't just because of the Lotus power.
Great race! It was nice to see those guys racing and respecting each other. Saturday's Grand-Am race looked like nascrap. The "Axe" needs to be suspended for awhile.
IMO
The cars are ugly
The rules are better
Chevy is the best engine package
Penske has it together
Will Power rocks
Scott Dixon is a crybaby
The Go Daddy car seems different

Easy - you move over to let people by and get into the marbles.
Jay Penske was treating this as just another test day - in reality, only their 7th day on the track with the car counting the 2 race weekends so far. Lotus power - or the total lack thereof - is indeed the biggest culprit in this case.
You are correct, though, in that they will most likely be a back-marker for a fair portion of the start of the season - only one day of testing so far with the rest of the crowd, and no engine available for the next few tests will have a tendency to contribute to that.

Bourdais had a pretty good freakin test then. I really think he should be driving for the other Penske. Legge was saying something over the radio about moving over for cars and getting her tires messed up. I think she will be ok. She didn't race anything at all last year.

Curmudgeon Central here. For some strange reason (and April 1st has passed) I can't get snide and cynical about the series this year the way I should. The cars, well most of them, are performing pretty well for being brand new.
And I thought the racing was very good, these guys are showing some decent skills and I was entertained. Almost every lap there was some clean passing and re-passing.
Apparently this is the case because 1) the tire rules and life are working to mix it up, 2) the passing rules have been refined and clarified, 3) the guys are commited to playing fair and expecting that they will get what they give when it's their turn to be fast on fresh tires.
And, I may be the only one, but I'm already used to the look and it's not that bad. A ton better than the old ones and with the actual wheel to wheel racing going on, they're beautiful.
Hope it's not a crashfest at LB and I have to change my mind. $hit, maybe I'll even go down there.
