    Default CM Competitors Listing

Attached you will find the latest edition of the CM Competitors PDF (previously known as CM National Numbers).

As is usually the case, cars are being sold, switched, updated, etc. Please review the listing and forward any updates. As some on this listing do not follow ApexSpeed, I ask that you update the information for those that you may know.

    Thanks,

Eric Clements and I will be co-driving my '85 Mondiale.

My work/life schedule has seriously impacted my Solo-ability the last couple of years, but I look forward to getting the new car sorted and running as many events as we can.

I run #44 locally, if you need a car number to stick in the spreadsheet...

I have heard through the grapevine that Barry Ott is converting his FC to FF trim to run in CM. I don't have personal knowledge of this, so just take it as rumor at the moment.

Edit... I've also heard through the grapevine that Joe Goeke will be co-driving with the Orvendals.

I will be running #51/151 that I have run in CSP for the past 10 years in the new (to me) Citation. My wife, Keiko Tsuzuro, will co-drive with me in the open class unless there is another car or two in CML at any given event.

We'll indeed be running a 1982 Crossle 82F with Joe codriving, numbers undecided, but this is providing valuable input (the car currently has 14 on it, but that'll likely change).

If you are accepting regional/divisional enteries, you can add me. I'm not sure how I can swing 2012 Nationals with a child off to college at about the same time next year.

I will plan to make the '12 Ft Myers Tour and Dixie Tour and SE Divisional [Series, if that happens]. Hopefully, I can met up with Pete C and Dick R. too. Ed Rushing & co-driver Joe, are prepping an RF88 out of Pensacola FL. Joe has some posts on here.

Next up: On Oct 15, Solo on the Roebling Road track - turns 1-3

    Suggestion: add a State column.

Yes, The plan is to convert my 95 VD FC to FF Honda. I'll be using #96/196. I'll be on business travel for most off Oct - Feb, so I'll be getting a little later start than I want, but I fully expect to be at Nationals '12

Thank you one and all for the updates. That is, the listing has evolved from “CM National” numbers into “Active/Inactive CM Competitors” be it local, regional, or national. The intent is provide a listing of all CM competitors/cars across NA.

Thanks for the update Barry. Looking forward to seing the end result!

Hmm, based on my last few posts, I think that I might have to revises the listing to include location as well as engine. Location so current/future competitors have a gauge as to the number of cars in their area. Engine so we highlight Barry's Honda.

Default Another driver for the list

Neil Roberts is working on a Swift DB-6 to turn it into a Formula Ford (don't know if it'll be a Kent or Honda). His hoped-for schedule is to autocross it at Lincoln next year and then road race it the following year.

We discussed this via email when I thought I was going to sell off a set of spare shocks and he was interested. I'm posting because he said his intentions were not confidential. Thought this would be a good addition to the list.

I purchased his recent book, Think Fast, and it's really good. I recommend it (and I didn't even get paid for this plug).

I'm pretty sure Neil Roberts is going with the Honda in the DB-6 since he has posted questions about fitting locations, etc. related to the Honda.

You can try to make a street car into an autocrosser or you can do a lot less work and make a race car into a great autocrosser

Chris, thanks for putting in all the hard work on this!

It is really wonderful seeing CM start to grow out west. We were wondering for how long we would be the only CM car showing up, but thanks to Andy's evangelizing there are a few more cars coming out.

It will be great to meet Neil at nationals - I really liked his book! I am also very curious about how the Honda will perform - I called HPD to find out how much just the motor and fitment kit for the swift would affect the CG location (especially height) of a DB1, but their official line was 'the engineers do not know'. I don't believe it. Neil, were you able to get this info from them??

I haven't started grilling HPD yet since I haven't ordered the engine package. However, all it takes to find the CG of something is to hang it from a rope or chain twice, from two different points, or balance it while it is sitting on a narrow support. Of course I don't have a Kent to compare to, so I won't know what the difference is. I intend to do a complete bottom-up weight and balance buildup of the car so that I can calculate rotary inertias, just in case someone volunteers to do a lap sim project for me.

How much does a Kent weigh? The HPD website says the fit weighs 221lbs with flywheel, clutch, starter and alternater.

How do you factor rod and piston weights in? Does the reversal of direction contribute some sort of sine function to the simulation output, or do you just add up the moments as a sum since they operate as opposed sets?

Oh, I was referring to the rotary inertias of the whole car in the pitch, yaw, and roll directions. For really precise number crunching, one can include the gyroscopic effects of the rotating bits, but they are usually minor. To do that, the usual shortcut is to calculate the rotary inertias of the flywheel, clutch, crankshaft, and the big ends of the rods.

Wow! 43 active cars and 60 drivers. If a half makes to Nationals, CM will be a 30-car class in 2012. Nice!

    Sho,

Yes, 25 to 35 entries at the Solo Nationals would be great! That said, it's just nice to know where all the cars running these days; it gives current/potential competitors a chance to see who is running in a given area.

Frank Weichold runs a silver 1985 Reynard F1600 (#91) in CM in the Washington DC area (WDCR & Autocross Inc). I saw him a few times at WDCR events in the 2010 season and just noticed that he was registered for the AI event at FedEx Field on October 9th. I would have gone to FedEx Field to run with him if I were not committed to the Philly event in Dover, DE on the same day!
