Default RF88 VD wheel nuts

Can someone point me to a source for front and rear lug nuts for the car.

These are the ones with the shoulder that goes into the wheel holes. Pegasus catalog doesn't seem to have them.

Did you try your local Tire and Wheel outlet?

Honestly, not yet. Only because most of them can't find anything unless it is in the computer.

"yea I need lug nuts for an 88 Van Dieman". and about all I expect to get is a dumb founded look.

That's because you don't need lug nuts for a RF-88, you need them to suit what ever wheels you happen to have. They could be 3/4" NF self-locking if you have center lock wheels, 3/8" NF ball taper, 3/8" NF 60 degree taper, 3/4" NF 5/8" sleeve with different length sleeves, or 11/16" sleeve. I've had wheels with all those combinations and permutations, but i do think your studs are 3/8" if you use studs. Lola's sometimes had 7/16" studs.

These are probably what you need. http://www.minimania.com/web/SUBTYPE..._Inventory.cfm

Yes those would be the kind.

See what I mean, now I gotta do some measuring.

I do know the rear wheels have longer sleeves that the front.

3/8-24 on the threads seems to be about right.

anyone have a torque value for these itty bitty buggers?

someone told the car owner 45 ft/lbs. That didn't work as they all worked loose in 2 autocross runs.

90 seems a bit high for the small dia stud and fine thread. Hence why I am looking for new lug nuts.

IIRC I use 35-40 Ft/Lbs for the 3/8" tube nuts on my RF78. I've never had a problem with them loosening. As far as length, they can easily be shortened on a lathe. If they're too long, they can bottom on the hub face.

40 ft lbs is what I use on those wheel nuts. They will not work loose if the studs are not stretching, if you have the correct washers under the heads, and the fit is correct. 45 ft lbs could have started to strip the interior threads, I have seen that when over-torqued. Usually the studs are a lot tougher than the nuts.

Ran 1988 VD FF for two seasons torques the lug nuts to 40 ft lbs. Never had any issues on lug nuts lossening up.
