That car has been posted for sale in numerous places(here, ebay, race-cars.com) for at least the last three years, which always makes me wonder what the deal is with it not selling. Unrealistic price or lack of interest in the chassis?

    Post Ray sale

    It is very fishy.
I sold my 92 Ray FF 1600 on Apex Speed in three weeks half year ago for 14'k .
    with engine of course.
Either way three years on market for right price, something doesn't click.

full rebuild, no engine, no spares, hasn't ran in many years and not many folks at the track running them at least around here (compared to say vds). $8500 was the asking price before. I am sure the economy has something to do with it also. There have been many great cars selling for low prices over the last few years. I am sure it can be a great car and it is definately very sexy looking but the question is it worth the $ and effort or do you just buy one ready to go.

I am not accusing but the owner was not very forthcoming on inquiries when listed here previously...I would definitely inspect before any deal is made for reasons noted by others here.

It's bid up to $6600 with the reserve met, so it could finally be on its way to a new owner.

I was curious whether it would fit a tall driver so I did a search and found a 1992 Ray that had sold in Ontario in 2009. That ad stated, "will fit tall drivers. Has had a 6'4" 240 lb driver in it."

I owned that one for a year and sold it in August.
    Very roomy car.
However it had much cooler side pods from 89 model.

    very nice car.

    He's probably a bozo.
Ray's are good cars and very popular in UK and Canada.
    Something doesn't add up.

    Default 1992 Ray roller

Just thought I'd post an update in case anyone is interested.
I went and looked at the car last week after the sale fell through on EBAY
(apparently the winner defaulted and did not go through with the purchase)
I am not familiar with Ray formula fords but the car looks really good to me (plus
I did see some comments stating these are good cars) so I decided to buy it and it is now in my garage. The seller I dealt with was very pleasant, patient and very
professinnal throughout the entire process and honored the winning bid that was
on EBAY. So now I'll go through the car as best as I can (though I already know I'll
need quite a bit of help along the way ) I'm definitely happy with this car and looking
forward to getting it on the track and doing some racing.
    regards,
    Robert

    Default 92 Ray roller

Thanks for the suggestion but I'll have to stick to the ford engine.
Since you owned one of these before how would you describe it's
handling overall ? also any suggestions as far as spring rates go ?
I'll be using relatively hard compound tires (Spec tire made by ARS)
I've been looking on the internet looking for Ray formula fords in general and
agree the side pods from an '89 model as fitted in your previous car looks
better. nice rhyme about the honda FIT , BTW !
    thanks and take care !

Honestly since it was my first open wheel experience i have nothing to compare it to.
However comparing to FM i have now, Ray was very forgiving, chassis was good in a sense that you could always feel when something was off and correct it on time.
So to be fast it's up to driver and engine.
Ray's are wildly popular in UK,Aussies and Canadian's also are quite found of them.
Also it was very roomy car ,it could easily accommodate bigger fellow(problem i never had 5 11'.175 lbs)it was bit too roomy for me.
In other words, put good engine in it,good data and rest is all you.
I personally liked the car very much and when i wanted to upgrade i was able to sell it very quickly ,considering terrible economy(guy was specifically looking for Ray)

    Hope this was helpful.

Robert, good luck with the car. Just curious, what series will you be running in that uses American Racers as their spec tire? Does FRCCA use ARS tires?

    Thanks

Ron, as much as we'd love to run with you guys, we have our plate full this year, running the Pro Series plus enough Nationals to go to the Runoffs.

And adding ARS tires into the mix would really put us over the edge! We are already using two different tires, Hoosier in the Pro Series because it is the spec tire and Goodyear in Nationals because they have been good to us for the past 3 years.

Thanks for wishing me luck Tom and I wish the same for you in your racing and
it's clear you have a very busy schedule lined up. The Ray will be racing in the
FRCCA series sometime this year (need to do some things to it first obviously)

    Default Engine available

I have a complete, disassembled, race-prepped engine available for $1,750. The crank was just polished and cylinders honed. Fresh bearings and rings. 711M block. It's ready for assembly.

    Hi Larry,

There is one other person I wanted to speak to first concerning an engine and will
try to call him tomorrow so I don't want to commit right now. Your offer does sound
good though but again let me hold off a bit. I don't suppose you have any pics avail
for your engine ? Also for the time being I am contemplating using an old cortina
engine I already have to save $$$ Thanks again Larry.
