As an aside, I hired an engineer to help me out at a vintage race a couple of years ago, more as a pit crew guy than an engineer, but... Not only did I drop a second and a half in lap time on my car over the weekend, because he loves to take tire temps and do suspension tweeks, the wheels on my car were cleaner than they have ever been (he has this odd idea that if he's been hired for the weekend, he may as well work on the cars, if only cleaning them...) plus he was invaluable help when we pulled the engine on the race Mini to fix a transfer case leak. Not that he knew anything about Mini's, but he was damn willing to pitch in and he has small hands - not inconsequential when working on Mini's.

So I highly recommend hiring engineers to help out, if for no other reason than they actually know their way around a pit, and will be totally useful in making the whole weekend go better, in ways you probably never dreamed of...

Brian,

Thanks for the input. You can never seem to get enough help at the track. Good luck with your racing.
