Hi gang,

In preparation for some of the added features we will be providing on EFCN, I am looking for formula car track records from across North America. If you have one or know of one, please post it here or fire an email over to me. Please include the class/championship, the time, driver name, year set and if possible make and year of car it was set in. Thanks in advance.

Some of the open wheel records in the Southwest Division are not up to date.

I think it is a noble task, but I wouldn't want to tackle it if I was Al. Then again, if it becomes a popular resource for lots of racers, it will have a chance at keeping up to date.

Personally, I think SCCA HQ ought to take this on, perhaps in conjuction with the divisions. I know it's easy for me to say, but it would be most efficient (IMO) if updating divisional records was just part of a region's task list following an event.

You also have the F5 record listed incorrectly. Clint turned a 1:35.190 in the Sunday SARRC at Barber last year - 7/8/07. I don't know that it is a track record, but I don't know of any faster laps in an F5.
Steve, FV80 (it's probably a typo on your part - 1:45 instead of the correct 1:35...)

Last month's national at Lime Rock was the first SCCA race run on the newly paved track (in the classic configuration), there were lots of new track records set, including in four open wheel classes. Here are the records from the NESCCA website, listed as set on 8/2/08:

Most of the Road Atlanta SCCA Club Racing records below are from an email message from mid-2007, so many are probably not current. For instance, I think Justin Pritchard has the FB record now. And I think the Pro FF2000 record is lower than Keith Roberts' Club Racing record.

Man, what's up w/ VIR anyway?!! (See Steven davis' post above)
FM record there is full on erroneous, something like a 1:54 IIRC, but it is on their official listing. It's from the first year, and was recorded by a very fine fella who unfortunately could never run that pace. In fact anyone else who ever ran an FM there would be hard pressed to get much under a 1:57. What are ya gonna do?

I agree with Glenn....the listed FM track record for VIR is definitely not correct. It was recorded back in the day prior to transponders, and someone in timing and scoring simply made an honest error. I would be very surprised if the actual FM record at VIR was under a 1:57.0. Something in the 1:56's is possible (I have seen it in qualifying), but IMO it would be unlikely for a race lap.

How about that Keith Roberts fella ! CFC and FC records.

I was in the race in '99 when he set the CFC record in a 88 Reynard. Wow! He was in the 30s for multiple laps. At that time it was seconds beyond the rest of the CFC field. John Hersher (95ish VD) showed this year that the record is probably soon to fall. John did a 29 in qualifying. In this years race John opted to play it safe in amougst a gaggle of FMs and make sure he got on the top step of the podium. I'm thinking next year might be the last for Keith's impressive laps in 1999. Still... very impressive for a rocker car.

I agree. Great job. One more good reason to visit the EFCN site.

I've often wondered why the SCCA T&S folks haven't taken extra steps to keep that information in a central location. Admittedly, it would take a significant amount of work, but considering how pertinant the information is to racers (it's our yardstick!), it would be a great resource.
