The really big (and awful) F1 news was Mosley getting elected to another term as FIA president on Friday. F1 as we know it, is doomed......doomed, doomed, doomed......
I used to think these fluid aero specialist yayhoo types (like Newey) were indisposible, until that is, the McLaren 18B.
Pretty shocking move. I'm guessing Coulthard played a big part in getting him to join. Further evidence why signing the Scot was a brilliant move by the team. While his days of winning and challenging for a title are gone, he is a great mentor for the young drivers and his strong technical feedback has been a key to the teams improvements.
Speaking of Newey was wondering how his hiring will affect the "Roso" team. Are the two teams sharing info and resources or are they two fully independent teams owned by same company?
While not that surprised Mosley won another term, was surprised how easy it was for him. While I don't think F1 is doomed, I'm not a Mosley fan.
I didn't say F1 was doomed. I said F1 as we know it is doomed. I fully expect now that there will be 2 separate F1 championships by 2009. One run by all the big car manufacturers and another that will have only Ferrari and the two "red bulla" teams involved. It'll make the Champcar/IRL split up look like childs play.
Mosley isn't a President, he's an Emperor. In the days of Rome they at least made an attempt at faking an election by having straw candidates to run against. These guys egos are so huge they don't even bother doing that. No car manufacturer spending millions is going to put up with some imperial nut job telling them what they are or aren't going to do...
