Figured a sigle thread with multiple links to Formula First videos would be a good idea.

These are "in-car" FST videos over the past few years at various tracks in various cars/drivers........ enjoy

Nice race, except for the CFF.

    That would make me mental.

Wow! That is some really neat video. Are ALL your races like that?

    Two things come to mind:

1 - I had planned to talk about the "etiquette" of class racing at the drivers' meeting but didn't have it as a separate bullet point on my list and missed it. It seems intuitive that you shouldn't screw up somebody else's race if you're not involved in one yourself, but unfortunately common sense isn't common. Obviously some people need a reminder (assuming they actually come to the meeting and pretend to listen).

2 - I'm sure it wasn't as bad in person as the video shows, but the November sun at Road Atlanta is absolutely brutal first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon. I plan to order a full overcast for 2009, but just in case that doesn't happen we will be rotating the run groups each year so everyone has the same chance of not being able to see.

Split starts (or split grids) are a double-edged sword, and we've had the same issues in GTA/SPO. Yes the entire class is together, but it also means you catch the "corner challenged" drivers of the faster class that much sooner.

Looking forward to helping you guys grow FST, and I'd LOVE to see 20+ coming down the hill in 2009!

    Default Blinded by the light...

So Butch, I take it ya didn't like my idea of parking a 30' Ryder rental truck on the T5 hillside with a few sheets of plywood along the bottom to (quite affordably) prevent what has the potential to be a real nasty situation.
If my group had to race at the affected times, I woulda sprung for it myself.
My guess is the region ought to react proactively to this very dangerous situation before it becomes an issue.
    Too simple?

Coop - besides the logistics of setting up something like this, a 30' truck won't cut it except for a very narrow section of the track. And even if you DID place in the perfect place to block the sun at turn-in to Turn Five (for example), what about when the sun is just above the truck?

Since I can't be assured my order of overcast will be delivered next year, going back to eight run groups will give a better chance of finishing before the sun sets over Spectator Hill.

    Default Lots of Great Racing

    Hey BK,

The Formula First Series has had a number of great races this year. Its not unusual to hear we put on the best show of the weekend.

The sun angle was definitely a factor but it was better than the video suggested. A clean visor and clean sunglasses solved the problem for me.

The race was a ton of fun to run. I hope to see you next year.

I thought the sun added an element of challenge without being dangerous. I certainly had no concerns. Corner 2 at Nelson Ledges is totally blind with the sunset at times .... 5X as bad as we experienced at the ARRC.
    Cheers!
Ps .... Overcast? Can we stick with the same 79 degrees and sunny that 08 had?

    Default Common Video Naming Convention

    Bill,

Thanks for the update links to some of the great FST action captured on video (and a big thanks to all the videographers). It‘s a hoot watching it all action on the big screen. With that being said I was wondering if a common naming convention could be adopted for posting the videos on YouTube. This would make searching (and hopefully finding) videos a bit easier. As I’ve never posted anything to YouTube’s site, I’m not certain of all the issues involved. Anyway, here’s what I was thinking. Plain old FST and FFST turn up all sorts of unrelated stuff to wade through, that I don’t think they’d be of much help. So, how about using the initials FST (or FFST) followed by the year of the race (i.e. FST09 for races in 2009) as part of the posting title/info. This would make general searching for new video fare a bit easier and still leave room for some descriptive information. Also, if a standard naming convention could be found and followed, the information on it could be posted on the Formula First site. That way people interested in seeing the racing the class has to offer could more readily find the video evidence of it. Again, this is just an idea, and there may be better ways of accomplishing this.

    George

P.S. My reasons for bringing this up are not altogether altruistic. Having just acquired 58” of plasma splendor (better than sex, or at least that’s what my wife keeps telling me) that has direct YouTube access, an easier way of searching for new video fare would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi All! I´m new on this board but i watching Formula Vee since 1969 on the nürburgring Helmut Marko and Niki Lauda was the fastest Fvee driver! Unbelievably. I would thank you for first class Videos and especially Bill Bonow thank you for your tireless efforts! It´s your series and withouth your efforts.... for this in my mind with the southafrican Fvee and australian Ffirst best series in all open-wheeler ( Think the relative small budget, nobody can touch this!) ! Your cars are fast like hell! How much power generate the cars on the crankshaft and how many rebuilt you have to do? I love this series with all my heartblood. And Mister Bonow you are a rocket!!!!! Thanks in advance

    Thomas,

Thank you for the kind words, but most of those videos were made by Carl Middelegge, one of our competitiors and last years series champion. As for the rocket claim, again thanks, but as you can see in the videos we are ALL very close in speed and talent. I will say that our formula seems to be very economical, sensible and competitive.

Our engines are making around 85 hp at the flywheel and figure the engine will need rebuilding at 50 hours. I say figure because the farthest we have pushed to date has been 40 hours and the parts still look like brand new.

Dusseldorf is a beautiful city. I visit every 4 years for Schweissen & Schneiden (International Welding Show) just up the road in Essen.

Carl took some more video from our first event this year at Blackhawk. I'll pester him about posting some of that footage.

    Hi Bill!
wow, 50 hours for rebuilt that is more as one year of racing! And than this tyres! Very, very cheaper than original Fvee. This is the Fvee of the future!Yes i was at the first Jochen Rindt Show 1970 in Essen. I saw the Lotus 49 and all the other dreams of my childhood and yet. It´s a shame that in Germany don´t give that Formula first like ours!!! It´s in my mind the best of racing and fast like hell! Forget the "Schickimicki" formula 1! Fvee races was every time more excitig than f1. I saw that myself and all the others around the tracks! Please give not up and make the dream possible!!! (Irish Formula 1600 is a good series too, they have most double caburetors and mild tuning with around 80 hp on the flywheel, very good and exciting races!
With the best regards and wishes
    Thomas

    Thanks in advance

Nice to have so many videos in one place. Betting my head against the wall trying to track them down on Youtube. Just at that point when getting back into FV is an option again. Thinking FST makes much more sense. Learning, learning, learning...
