    Default What is a roller

Question, what is normally included when the description "roller" is used for a formula car ?? I would guess frame, suspension, body panels, wheels (?), etc... understand it does not include the engine, but what about all the gauges, seat, fuel cell, fire system, belts, full wiring, plumbing, transaxle, etc....

Any formal definition or options, thanks

I think the formal definition is four wheels and capable of rolling onto a trailer.

A roller is usually everything sans engine. A slider is usually without engine and gearbox and a basket case is simply a pile of parts that may or may not be a complete slider, roller, or complete car.

Buying race cars can be an interesting experience.
Sometimes things change between purchase and delivery.

To prevent that situation I know of one buyer that joined the car while it was on the podium after winning a race. The buyer then had one of his people hold on the rollhoop until the car was inside the buyer's trailer.

A bit excessive... or not. Just saying.

But they did get the shocks, springs, wheels, hardware, etc. that they bargained for.

That would be my interpretation. I like to ask what is missing. I like to ask what is included but will not be serviceable. As a buyer, you have to make sure you hear what you were told, and not what you wanted to hear.

Default Extras - Dry Sump Pan

There are some cars which use chassis-specific dry sump pans for the engine, the Swift DB1 FF for example. The sump is an integral part of the chassis. It is much, much more convenient to get the sump with the roller chassis.

Usually, the exchange is not that dramatic. However, things like transponders have a way of disappearing during the transaction. What is the price of a transponder these days????

Exhaust systems are usually chassis specific, like oil pans that create chassis reinforcement.

    YMMV
