When will helmets with a 2010 Snell sticker become mandatory?

have not seen any proposal so you likely have one or two more years on the 2005. normally the standard is not changed until the new ones are readily available.

Snell 2010 helmets have been readily available for quite some time. The 2015 Snells will start coming out in about 14 months.

    Default Helmet requirement

My quess is, for club racing 2017.
They normally do not change the recommended helmet minimum requirements, until new helmets have been available for a year.

Again, I'm not asking about the 2015. I'm asking about the 2010, which has already been available for about three years.

I was responding to your statement " The 2015 Snells will start coming out in about 14 months." not your question.

BTW, I was responding to your statement " The 2015 Snells will start coming out in about 14 months." not your question.
If that's the case, then the 2010 Snell sticker probably would become mandatory 1/1/2016 (rather than 2017).

So the 2015s will be available in slightly over 13 months (rather than 14 months).

    Default My experience

My first helmet was a Snell 2000.
Last SCCA Annual sticker was applied for 2008.

Logically, if SCCA is consistent, the 2010 should be good to get a 2018 sticker.

    I have a 2005 Snell with a 2014 SCCA annual tech sticker.

In other words, a Snell 2005 helmet will still be SCCA compliant through: 2015 for sure, 2016 most likely, 2017 possibly, 2018 unlikely.

2005 helmets will be good until the 2020 sticker comes out.

    From the 2015 rules,

"All helmets meeting the latest or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation
    standards (SA2015, SA2010, SAH2010, SA2005, SA2000, M2015,
    M2010, M2005, M2000, K2010, K2005, K98)

    no that is wrong.
the 2005 helmets will be good until the GCR is changed. the GCR will be changed when there is an adequate supply of 2015 helmets available. then 2010 and 2015 will be legal.

As soon as 2015's are available, buy one.

jbrannon7 is quoting from the Solo rulebook which allows an extra five years of use. For us cone chasers, the currently legal 2000 Snell helmets must be replaced when the 2015 spec is released. There is no grace period like the club racers get. After all, we have already gotten 15 years of use out of the ratty old helmets.

Why? Is there any significant spec difference over time, or are you suggesting that regular replacement is a good idea?

Bear in mind that the Snell Foundation finalized the SA2015 standard in October 2014. The link I posted is to a press release from that time frame.

Ah - thank you David - seems bad to me that it was undated. Since you just posted it I assumed it was recent.

In regards to this thread, my suggestion is -
When the 2015 SA's come out, why buy a 2010 ? If you have to update, update to the latest & safest (assuming).
