    Default Helmet Painting Artists?

I know this topic has been raised before. but it has been some time since I last saw it discussed. It seems that helmet painters come and go.

So, who do you recommend for helmet painting? Yeah, I know about Troy Lee Designs but I'm not spending that kind of cash.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Indocil Art, Razor Image, and Shark are some other names you can look at to suit your taste.

    From a previous post:

"I went a slightly different route by going to a local tattoo artist who did airbrushing on the side. Being a used helmet, I sanded & filled some small holes then turned it over to him. I gave him a few pics of what I like, but him being an artist of which he reminded me, he had pretty free reign. My only request was basically I liked flames, flags,,etc. - just no skulls, crossbones,,. Overall very happy with the finish. $200 out the door which included clear-coat & 1 week turn."

I'll second the opinion on Savage Designs. I had Mike Savage do mine last time and was very impressed. I can post pictures if anyone is interested.

One word of advice though - any of the major painters will require a long lead time. Don't tell any of them you need it back 2 days before a race....or you stand a good chance of not getting it. Tell them your race is about a month ahead of when it actually is. Plan on it taking at least 2 months, and don't wait until March to send it.

That's for sure. Painters are definitely on their own clock.

He's currently living out of a hotel in Iowa or something with a new job... I doubt he would be looking to paint anything.

    Default Multiple recomendations

Look up the thread "post your helmet art here". Mine was done by WickedColor [or WickedKolor]. Joshua did a good job, and on time.

    Default Savage Designs

Talked with Mike at Savage this morning. This guy is really into his craft. Does helmets for a lot of the big name racers. Not cheap, but it looks like he pays attention to detail and has great designs.

Like beautiful race cars, I consider helmets artwork. I like seeing a well painted helmet at the track.

As someone who wouldn't easily turn over his helmet to anyone, I would send anything I couldn't do myself to http://www.censportgfx.com.

Brilliant work. Not cheap, but no art isn't cheap.
