Default FM Battery Replacement

Does anyone have a recommendation on a replacement battery for our FMs? Any info on CCA, AH, brand would be great. I am looking for something lightweight as well, at least a lot lighter than the 22 lb battery I have now. Pegasus has some as light as 3-4 lbs, but I don't want to be under powered, electrically speaking.

I think a lot of people have been using the Odessey battery. Moses Smith has it for about $176, including an adapter to fit the factory rack.

Default battery

Tractor supply lawnmower battery with 400 cranking amps. About 50 bucks I think.

Default How big a fella

are you?
Reason I ask is back when I ran these things (I'm 160 lbs), we'd want as much weight on the front. I had about 30 lbs of 1/4" steel plate bolted to the front sheer plate + the lawn and garden battery to make minimum weight.

I'm 195 lbs, 6' 2", fairly lean. I would certainly like more weight on the front tires, but I'm also 45 lbs over minumum weight with my current (dead) battery. I can ballast the front again if I need to e.g. if the weight decrease is outweighed by a change in handling balance. Any thoughts on that aspect?

Interste SP-35, 300 cca. Seems to be a nice balance between cost & reliability.

Default Interesting

that you are 45 lbs over minimum?
Has the min weight changed since my last time in my FM in 2004?
I weighed 160 and had much weight as mentioned, maybe even a thick SS floor to make min, while you weigh 35 lbs MORE and w/ no ballast (?) you are 45 lbs over.

Is the car new to you? If so, is there a possibility that there might be hidden ballast you do not know of?

Default Well....

I did have 2-3, extra gallons of gas on board. The empty-tank weight of the car is on spec, it is just that on a good day, I'm 195 lbs in shorts and sometimes well north of 200 with driving gear on. The prior owner had ballast under the knees/seat and has been removed. I have only one end of the car with aluminum calipers, so that is another possibility. All that said, the guy behind the wheel is where the real pick up in speed is, but it's fun to optimize.
