Default help with old style canton remote oil filter maintenence

I have an old style canton remote oil filter that i just removed from the car.
I want to change the filter in it, but am not sure how the end caps come off.

there are 2 small holes (~1/8" x 1/8")bored into each end cap 180 degree apart from each other. this would suggest that with a special tool i could just unscrew the caps. i guess i could have a machinist make something if thats the case.
it seems unlikely that the end caps would just be pressed in, but what do i know......

I already have the o rings for it, and its out of the car.
any help in how this thing comes apart would be appreciated.
Josh

On my Canton oil filter it's just a tube with both ends threaded and the caps screw in. I'd just figure a way to unscrew one end...

It sounds like holes for a "pin spanner": http://www.nextag.com/pin-spanner-wrench/stores-html . I've made one by drilling some flat stock to match the hole spacing/size, and insert round rod, bolts, or even 2 drill bits thru those holes to turn it.
