Daniel Boone. Celebrating the 50th anniversary in a few weeks.
Met Fess Parker on many occasions. He was that character... RIP.

    I liked the rifleman too.

Yep, and you can fill volumes on what they don't say. As an example, there was a time when reporting the news was sophisticated, well researched, brutally honest and unbiased. Anchors and reporters presented the facts regardless of how uncomfortable they may be, and allowed you to make an informed decision. Hell, listen to archival recording's of John Chancellor; Chet Huntley and David Brinkley; Walter Cronkite; Dave Garroway; Garrick Utley. You had absolutely no clue as to their political inclinations. And that was good, being the hall monitors and exercising checks and balance over the US government's transparency. Now, it's a free for all, and they have forsaken the adage: the truth is precisely equidistant form the extremes.

IMHO Ted, Apexers are a pretty fast crowd. Very respectfully sir, I do not believe for a moment that anyone on this sight wouldn't mentor any youth, any time in the importance of: duty, honor and country; the value of Christ in the family; that one must never lie, cheat or steal; and that education is the key to success. I'll throw in families that race together, stay together. Just say'in.

    GOOD stuff.

Does anyone remember going to the movie matinee on Saturday and watching the Republic twelve part, fifteen minute serials before the feature?

Yea. Talk about how to make friends with your first post!

Someone commented about the older generation not teaching the younger. Only partially right, as I know way too many teens and early 20's whos parents did indeed expose them to all the old greats - and the "kids' are amazed at how much better most of the early TV stuff was compared to what is on now, and how much more neutral the news was.

Anyone remember a show called "The Debaters" ?

The funny thing is, the character that Fess Parker played bore almost no resemblance to the real Daniel Boone! Fun, simple TV show, though.

My son loves the old TV shows & classic rock. The old cartoons were far more fun to watch !

Lot's of whacking, slapping, tripping, falling & things exploding !

Geez, I'm still older then most of you.

My first favorite TV shows were:

Hopalong Cassidy and his horse Topper.

The Cisco Kid and Poncho and their horses were Diablo/Loco

The Lone Ranger and Tonto and their horses Silver/Scout

I know heavy on the westerns but back then that WAS TV! Gotta remember also, the horses were almost as much stars of the show as the cowboys were.

Okay I left out Roy Rogers and Dale Evans but then, I didn't care for them compared to the other more action oriented cowboys.

Then as I got older and closer to going in the service, my favorite was Have Gun, will travel with Paladin and 77 Sunset Strip (Kookie!)

All of those are being broadcast currently on one of the local Indy broadcasters, as well as a bunch of the other old westerns and mystery/detective shows.

We both know a guy older than you driving a F-1000. Maybe not fast but still out trying to make life enjoyable.

That proves the generation gap... he goes online but is not computer savvy enough to engage or know what some of the functions are. He didn't have a computer until about 5 years ago. He has more things to keep him busy during retirement than being on the web. He's always out building things. The latest project is an ice boat for sailing on the frozen lakes during our long winters up here.
