The final rounds of the Hoosier Tire US Formula 1000 Championship East are coming up at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on August 9 and 10. This weekend will decide the 2014 East Champion and who takes home the $3,000 winner’s purse.

With a possible 56 points available to a driver if he were to sweep the weekend (like Jeremy Hill did at Watkins Glen), there are four drivers that could take the title. Alex Mayer has 160 points and holds a slim 3 point lead over Glenn Cooper, while Jeremy Hill is just 14 points behind Cooper. A little further back, Jason Bell has 114 points and Dore Chaponick has 111. Keep in mind that the championship will be decided by each driver’s best eight finishes which could help other drivers break into the top five and go home with some prize money.
Over $7,000 will be awarded at Mid-Ohio:
    Champion- $3,000
    2nd Place- $2,000
    3rd Place- $1,000
    4th Place- $750
    5th Place- $500

As if that wasn’t enough, the US Formula 1000 Championship will have the track to themselves throughout the entire weekend. Each day will consist of a 30 minute qualifying session in the morning followed by a 20 lap race in the afternoon with only Formula 1000 cars on the track.

Finally, the Cincinnati region is working on reserved paddock space for the Formula 1000 teams. We need everyone to register as early as possible to make paddock planning easier for everyone.

    Registration is currently open:
    http://www.motorsportreg.com/events/...-course-581364

When registering, please note that there is a checkbox for the Hoosier Tire US Formula 1000 Championship entry. This is different than the standard race entry and is required to race in the stand-alone run group.

    Be there!

    Default Tires

I screwed up and forgot to order front tires for the weekend. I would like a set of Hoosier 20.5 x 7 x13 R35 stickers. I have a set of sticker rears so just need fronts. if anyone overordered or isn't planning on attending, please let me know.
    Thanks

Jeremy Hill won round 9 of the Hoosier Tire US Formula 1000 Championship East today, going flag to flag!
    1. Jeremy Hill
    2. Alex Mayer
    3. Glenn Cooper
    4. Jason Bell
    DNF Dore Chaponick
    DNF Nicho Vardis
    DNS Doug Hertz

Yes, it was a race of attrition. There were only 7 cars at the track and Hertz blew up in qualifying leaving cars to take the green. Vardis spun on the 2nd lap and burned up the starter, Chaponick parked with an electrical problem, and Bell blew up on lap 13, leaving three cars running at the end.
It appears that Hill needs to only finish Sunday's race to claim the 2014 East Championship.

Is it? The two liters cars were going 23's on spec radial tires (a 1:23.4 for a Van Diemen). There's no need to even discuss the copious advantages that the F1000 cars have over a two liter car.

What I meant Chris, is that the car is a VD conversion and not one of the new purpose built F1000 cars.

I meant no disrespect to the VD chassis at all. My apologies if it sounded that way.

    Default Congrats all

Jeremy's win on Saturday was amazing. He was perfectly consistent lap after lap. Alex and Coop were only a hair less so. All three drove remarkably.
    Congrats to all.

And......I think since the car is a VD conversion shows that no matter how new or what constructor any one racer might be driving, leaves this class wide open to competitors.

It is amazing when you consider a conversion vs. factory/constructor built. Jeremy Hill certainly made a great and bold impression for older cars, and down right being a good driver.

Just shows, that personal drive, motavation, and a desire to win can really make a difference.

Great class, great group of drivers.

Congratulations to Jeremy Hill for being a F1000 Class Champion.

The Hoosier Tire US Formula 1000 Championship East held the final two rounds at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, where the 2014 Champion would be decided. At the beginning of the weekend Alex Mayer had a narrow 3 point lead over Glenn Cooper, who was 14 points ahead of Jeremy Hill. However, the Champion would be determined by each driver's best 8 finishes, which meant that Hill had a very good chance of winning if he placed well.
Hill set the tone early by taking early by grabbing the pole with a lap of 1:22.579. Doug Hertz blew an engine near the end of qualifying and Mayer spun in his oil and was stranded on course but was still able qualify on the outside of the front row while Cooper qualified 3rd.

Final Qualifying grid for Round 9
    1. Jeremy Hill-1:22.579
    2. Alex Mayer-1:24.144
    3. Glenn Cooper-1:24.858
    4. Nicho Vardis-1:25.305
    5. Dore Chaponick-1:26.004
    6. Doug Hertz-1:33.104
    7. Jason Bell-1:42.531

At the start, Hill held the lead but was being hounded by Mayer and Cooper for the first several laps. On the second lap, Nicho Vardis spun in turn 1, bringing out a local yellow. This prevented Mayer from making a run on Hill. Once the track was cleared Hill started to build a gap to Mayer and took the flag-to-flag victory. Cooper faded toward the end of the race but still came home in 3rd.

Full results for round 9 at Mid-Ohio:

    1. Jeremy Hill
    2. Alex Mayer
    3. Glenn Cooper
    4. Jason Bell
    dnf-Dore Chaponick
    dnf-Nicho Vardis
    dns-Doug Hertz

The schedule for round 10 was a duplicate of Saturday with a morning qualifier setting the grid for the race. Hill went even faster, turning a lap of 1:21.647 and securing the pole by almost 2 seconds over Alex Mayer who would join him on the front row.

    Final grid for Round 10
    1. Jeremy Hill-1:21.647
    2. Alex Mayer-1:23.604
    3. Glenn Cooper-1:23.808
    4. Dore Chaponick-1:24.230
    5. Jason Bell-1:24.675
    6. Nicho Vardis-1:24.989
    7. Doug Hertz-no time

The final race of the season didn't go quite the way Hill had hoped. At the green flag, he was swarmed by Cooper and Mayer and fell back to 3rd. As the field entered turn 1, Mayer turned in and Hill's right front wing contacted Mayer's left rear tire, damaging the wing and Hill's chance at a fourth consecutive win. Mayer held the lead for the next two laps until Cooper made his move, taking over the top spot. Mayer stuck with him and kept the pressure on until lap 10 when he retook the lead. Mayer immediately started building a lead as Cooper was now under pressure from Jason Bell who had moved up from his 5th starting spot. Mayer drove to the easy win while Cooper and Bell battled behind him. Bell was glued to Cooper's wing for the remainder of the race but was unable to find a way around and had to settle for 3rd. Meanwhile Hill was off the pace due to his damaged wing and dropped to 5th in the final results.

    Round 10 Race results:
    1. Alex Mayer
    2. Glenn Cooper
    3. Jason Bell
    4. Nicho Vardis

Fantastic video editing Mike, well done!

Lots of fun watching Coop slide that Firman around, drove the wheels off it.

Nice to see Jason Bell actually getting in the mix, he's got the car to do it.

Too bad about Jeremy's wing. Noe that Jason has the gremlins out of the Citation, he and that car are going to be exciting to watch. Hopefully I'll join them...
