Default Contour Roam vs. Go-Pro Hero 2

I'd like to replace my cheap-o Kodak video camera I've been using, and use something more race friendly. To avoid having to explain yet one more race budget over-run, I'm going to just use some credit card points from Citi. That just leaves me two options from their catalog, a Go-Pro Hero 2, and a ContourRoam HD (yes, I understand there are probably better options out there).

I know that the Go-Pro has a horrible reputation in regards to the mount breaking, but has this improved at all since the initial release?

For those using the Contour, are any of you using either of these two mounts:

or:

Is this the preferred Go-Pro mount, or is an after market one available to help fix the mount breaking problem?

Thanks!

Glenn

I found the contour (non-roam) couldn't handle the vibrations. They might have improved, but I went through 2 of them. They would last about 4 race weekends.

If you use that Go Pro mount you should plan on letting all the flaggers know where your padock is. Many many people have lost cameras with that mount.

What kind of car you putting it on?

I sell these and I think you will have a hard time finding a better, smaller, lighter camara that offer good quality mounts but it all depends on the car and which mount is best for that car.

It's going on my 82 Reynard FF. It has the double rear roll-hoops, with an aluminum shroud over it, so wrapping the rear roll hoop isn't a practical option. It does have a 1" tube running from 3/4 of the way up the rear roll bar to the front roll hoop as well.

So that leaves two practical options. Surface mounting to the aluminum shroud between the main bars, or mounting a roll bar type clamp to the 1" tube near the top (next to my helmet).

Mark - Any chance you take Citi points?

Thanks for the replies so far.
