    Default 1974 Zink Z-10 : Price Reduced

    Reduced Price: $9,500.00

This is a solid Club Ford, Vintage Club Ford, or possibly an auto-X car. Car meets all requirements of Monoposto CFF rules other than tires. Car can accommodate a very large driver. One of the earlier drivers was 6'3". More photos on request.

    The facts:
Original steel body Bilstein shocks, refurbished by Bilstein. Reinforced front rockers. Stiffer springs all round. Alignment by Cypress Lane Racing. Steve Lathrop's excel setup spreadsheet file included.

New Fuel Safe cell in 2008, SafeCraft firebottle new in 2008. OMP belts good to 2017.

Loyning motor, freshened in Feb. 2014, 5 weekends on engine. SCAT steel crank and CP pistons. Dyno sheet and invoice available. Hewland rebuilt by Porter with a new case, new ring and pinion in 2008. Includes two spare gearsets, and a spare dog-ring.

4 sets of wheels, including 1 set Sterling mags, two sets of Revolutions mounted with American Racers, one set of Goodyear rains mounted on steel wheels.

All Zink specific spares included. Rear upright, extra rear sway bar, and several front blade sway bars of various diameters, anti-ackerman kit. Repairable spare nose, professionally made nose mold included. Spare engine cover. Two spare motorcraft distributors. Radiators were recored with high efficiency rad cores when the car was rebuilt. Runs 190F in 100+degree heat.

Car has been very reliable while driven by an old, slow, fat wanker with no talent. All that it needs is a transponder, air in the tires, gas in the cell.

Have log books back to new, April 1974. We are fairly certain this is the third Z-10 built. It was built from a kit by R.B. Haines along with Rollin Butler of Cricket Farm Motors.
James Brookshire took it to the Runoffs in 1978.

Tump Clements bought it from Brookshire, raced it for a season and then built a new chassis for it. It passed through several owners until the car was last raced in Oklahoma until 1992.

Car sat for 12 years when I bought it on ApexSpeed from Steve Alpers in Lakewood, WA, stripped it to the frame and rebuilt it over several years on the “easy payment plan”. Barry Calouette widened the chassis and shoulder tubes so I have plenty of room. Belly pan is steel, welded to the chassis.

The down side? It’s heavy, weighing about 990lbs with fluids, so it meets the monoposto rules. Car is located in Northern California, near San Francisco. Please contact me via PM or email.

    Regards,
    Dan Wise

Is that belly pan installation compliant with the gcr?

    On edit:
Yes. 5/8" stitch welds spaced about 4" apart. Current GCR calls for no more than 6" apart. It was not specified in GCR in 1981 when Clements built the chassis.

Since my fat bum sits on the pan, I'm glad the extra welds are there.

I think you have that backward. The belly pan is required to be stress bearing,ie the fasteners must be closer than 6" apart.

A little clarification about the history...if my memory is correct: My dad bought the car at the end of '77 from RB Haynes. It won the SARRC Championships in '78 (just ahead of a VERY fast youngster named Jackson Yonge, who would go on to win the '84 Runoffs in a Reynard that he drove like a dirt track car!) The car went to the Runoffs in '79, where I think we blew an engine. Sold it to Tump in '81, I believe.

I'm actually at my parents' house for a few days right now. I'll look into some old files and see if I can find any more info for a potential buyer about the early years of this car. It was always one of my favorite Zinks. Good to hear it is still on the track!

    James,

Thank you for the clarification on its record and for any files or info you find. Unfortunately RB Haines lost the scrapbook when his basement flooded many years ago. Tump Clements did send me some prints of the car when he raced it.

I'm having trouble getting my photos down small enough to post. A bit frustrating right now.

    Dan

    Roland,

Thank you for the correction. So the chassis is indeed compliant.

The text from the current GCR is below:

The floorpan shall be, at the minimum, attached to the
chassis lower rails at or adjacent to its full perimeter by
any combination of welding, bonding, riveting, or bolting.
The centers between any two adjacent fasteners shall
be no more than 6 inches apart as measured along the
panel surfaces. The floorpan may not “wrap up” on to the
chassis sides to any point above the top surface of the
    lower main frame rails.

Default Lots of views, but... now price is $9500 OBO

I guess not much interest at the asking price. Soo...

Sept 5&6 is the All Formula Ford Grid at the Columbia River Classic. You could be racing at one of the premier tracks on the west coast in this car.

    http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69732

I really want someone to go out and have some fun before summer is gone. Price now is $9500 or best offer.

Life is short, time to have some fun on the other side of the fence!!

PM or email, I will try to respond right away.

I want to buy it and paint it black and gold to look like a Lotus 72! Stupid need for a house getting in the way. Though maybe with the widened frame Brit could sleep in there.

    Ben,

All you would have to do is take the fuel cell out and Brit could sleep in the chassis.

Beautiful car ! Also a great price IMO. Vintage FFs keep going up in price it seems lately. This is a good value for the dollar. Be nice to Lathrop after the purchase and this could be a contender at COTA in November.

    Hello Mike,

    Glad to hear from you.
    CSRG's cutoff is currently Dec 31, 1972.

It may be time approach Locke about Club Fords. If CSRG allowed CF, I might keep it.

    Default Holiday Bump

We've had some interest, but no money has changed hands. Someone 6'2, 250 climbed in it with my bead seat in and said it has more room than his Crossle 32.

This Z-10 meets the Monoposto CF rules other than needing treaded Avons or Dunlops.

Put Toyos on and it meets SVRA rules easily.

Donation to ApexSpeed upon completion of sale.

    Hello Troy,
It's certainly been interesting to have it up for sale on ApexSpeed with a wide range of interest including two who said they would buy it. Then, crickets....

I will take it vintage racing. If it doesn't sell.

All it needs is treaded vintage tires and remove the advertising and stickers. I adjusted the valves, checked compression, leakdown and its all good.

    Default Sonoma Historics

We were invited to enter the Sonoma Historics June 3-5 and our entry was accepted. There will be 30+ FFs and perhaps a few FBs in our run group.

We ran the Zink on the treaded Avons as guests with CSRG at Thunderhill in April. I actually like them better than the American Racers. You can pound on them from turn one on and they make a nice 4 wheel drift in the fast sweepers.

Come out and see how much fun this is.

    Default Great running car!

I was crewing for one of Dan's competitors at the CSRG event and can vouch that Dan's Zink runs really well. There's a good deal for someone to snatch up!
