Default Looking for the history of my car

I know it is a west coast 1991 Mysterian M2 chassis #18 made by Ron Chuck, drivin by Skip Streets in the 1994 run offs. I have a slew of names in my log books S. Renae Cross, Skip Streets, Rich Keenan, Geoff Reed, Barret Hendricks...... a bunch I can't read one might be Jon Fogarty, not sure. The SVRA is thinking about allowing FV's to play here on the east coast and before I go play I'd like to get a history on my car. Wins, track records, Run off's appearances...ect...ect. Trying to get to know what I have been lovingly working on all these months.

    Default Mysterian FV

This is the car that Skip Streets won the 1991 Runoffs. You have painted it the same color it was in 1991. I had a wicker bill on the back of it when he won that was 1/4 " tall. Ron Chuck

I have a wicker bill about 1/4" that was on the car. What color was the lettering on the car in 91? I'd like to make it similar to how it was raced then.

As y0u can tell, the car has an amazing history. In addition to being a national champ car with Skip Streets at Atlanta, Jon Forgerty, of pro fame, spent his novice year in the car setting, a still standing, track record at Mid Ohio. I believe he made the podium as well. Rich Keenan bought the car and campaigned it on the west coast for a few years with good success as well. After that point, I lost track of the car. I spent many races against that car and I consider it a historical milestone for the class.

    Default 91 Mysterian

    Brian:
That is exactly why I asked about the car. I consider it a treasure that needs to be restored. It has a wonderful pedigree and with that said I plan on adding to that. It I'll be my first serious FV. I had a AutoD but all I could do with that was autocross. Now I have a piece of FV history and I only hope I can do the car proud.

Great to hear you respect the car's history. Prep it right and drive it hard, it can handle it. Make the driver's history proud and enjoy the car. Let us know if you need anything.

Hi, Rich Keenan here. I bought the car from Jon Fogarty in ~1996 or so, and had it until ~2004.

It's great that you painted the car its original color, without even knowing it! I believe the car was #51 when it won the Runoffs with Skip Streets.

I rebuilt it from the ground up in 2001 - so that silver powder coating on the frame and suspension is from me - looks like it is holding up pretty well! At that same time, I had Ron Chuck raise the roll hoop a few inches (I am 6'2").

I think Jon set up bunch of track records in the car & I know he won a ton of races and a championship. I set one track record at Buttonwillow in '99, and I won races at Laguna Seca, Infineon Raceway & Thunderhill. I raced it in Phoenix, Portland and everywhere in between.

The first picture of the car you posted in that gold color is from Jon, the orange picture is from when I had it. I've got lots of pictures of the car (detailed pictures with the bodywork off, and racing pictures), as well as a pretty detailed setup book for the car as well that I can dig up if you are interested. Just let me know!

The car was also featured on the cover of the Runoffs brochure the year after it won - I may have that brochure still as well.

You've got a great car with quite a history behind it. I'm glad to see it is in good hands!

    Rich

How much distance do you have from the bottom of the air filter to the top of the carb?

    Default Scoop

    Hey Brian

I see your scoop kind of resembles the Lazer scoop. I can tell you one thing I NEVER have any issues with running hot in this car. Even when running out here in this miserable heat in Calif. A couple weeks ago at Buttonwillow Raceway near Bakersfield, while the outside temp was well over 100 degrees the hottest my car (oil temp) got was 202 degrees.

The Lazer has the best cooling system around.

Your car is looking great. Keep plugging along.

Why are you running the later model Solex? It will not flow as well as the older 36hp version everyone else is running. The 90 degree turn on the tail pipe is highly questionable as well. I know some folks swear by them but my testing does not support their position.

That's my mock up carb and intake. The 90 degree tip is how the car came. Using what I got for now.

The wickebills were one on each side, not connected. Ronnie always designs things to lessen the work and will make it easier to remove the engine cover.
