    Default Wreck Miata

I experienced first hand this weekend at the Watkins Glen fun one why people love the Wreck Miata nickname.

Watch the orange car on the right and count how many cars he ends up hitting by the end of the video. Unfortunately I'm the black/blue/orange #90 that ends up backwards and broken. I begin the video on the right side, end up in the middle, and by the end of the back straight I'm on the far left.

    Good thing everyone had fenders...

Maybe he thought he was playing pinball in the #03 orange Miata?

I can relate. Got my Novice Permit last Spring at BHF in an SM. All the newbies were well behaved. After all, we needed to be signed off. The veterans were nose-to-tail & side-by-side most of the race.

Ha one bully ( not naming)in a big sedan during the school day. Ran two kids (16-17) off the track by diving inside Turn 7 & running wide, forcing them off. He tried it with me. I just looked at him & crowded him back. His paint job was worth more than the Miata Thankfully, he decided swapping paint wouldn't end well.

I'm building an SM this winter. Plan on running both cars, as long as our run groups aren't back to back. There's just too much time waiting around on race days for a hyper guy like me to run one car

(It's also a lot easier when you're not at the pointy end.)

Out here FC's CAN run in two groups in ICSCC racing and I don't see why you couldn't in SCCA. You have the option of running as FS if it's not in the FC run group We can run as FC or FL (Formula Libre) in ICSCC.

I prefer looking slow in two different cars. Spectators may catch on to me if I'm on track too often in the same car. The same reason I split the car into two colors. " Was it the blue car or the red one that spun in turn 12 ? " "I believe they both did ? "

You were in the worst part of the SM pack. Before I clicked on the video my guess was you were in rows 4-6.

    That's the optimist in you.

I thought everybody looked pretty darn well behaved for fendered cars for awhile at least. Then knucklehead makes a little mistake dropping RF during braking and collects you....then who knows what he was thinking but I'm guessing his thought process wasn't the clearest when he proceeds to go track left without so much as a courtesy glance.

Those cars have fenders and bumpers for a reason! Use them

    Kidding, of course....sort of.

    Ouch

I ran my SRF in group three, 52 cars, it was mayhem. I drove more in my rear mirrors than looking straight. Tintops have no respect for us.

    Glad everyone was ok.

I was in that group also. Very hard to see SRFs in Miata mirrors. I didn't like the way it felt to be around you guys with the lack of visibility so I just waved every srf by. The two cars are also too similar in speed in a draft on the straights.

I wouldn't want to be an srf going door to door with a tin top. Seems like a nasty combination in an accident.

Its funny, if i saw a SM coming up i would let them pass and then see where i can pass them back. Beadie in his honda braked checked me pretty good and all i saw was the under carriage of his car, i was thinking of writing a letter to the scca about having our class run on its own or with cars that can see us. Do you think it would help and who should i send it to?

ps if i knew what car you were in i would have waved to a fellow long islander!

I am not up to speed on all of the club management stuff, so I can't help you there.

I was also brake checked by one of those civics after he passed me and then moved in front of me. I guess they don't realize just how bad they are under braking compared to the SRF/Miatas.

Whatever browser you're using try another one, especially if it's an older version of Internet Explorer. Some of them don't play well with Vimeo.

Okay Im going to play devils advocate (and will admit our miatas are cleaner then normal around here) typically group wise we run the Miatas RX7s, T4's and SRFs in the same group. The biggest problem we have is the T4s (keeping in mind I run an RX7) and the rare time when an SRF forgets how big everyone else is (moves over to soon after passing)
