It was announced today that World Speed Motorsports would be providing test days to two Red Line Oil Karting Championship winners in the all new FormulaSPEED2.0. The prizes will be awarded to one Junior and one Masters champion. Details on the selection criteria will be announced in a future press release.

The FormulaSPEED2.0 is a brand new racecar engineered and hand built in California. The car was designed specifically for the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear, and is supported by Goodyear Racing and the MAZDASPEED Driver Development program. The FS2.0 is faster at Infineon Raceway than most other junior formula cars including the FM, FE, and F2000 class cars.

The World Speed Motorsports Rising Star Awards have been helping racers move up the open wheel racing ladder for years. The award includes a free test with WSM, and is presented to up and coming racers that WSM believes have what it takes to become a pro driver. Some of the past winners have included Scott Speed, Joey Hand, Joel Miller, Cole Whitt, Michael Self, Conor Daly, Ryan Phinny, Neil Alberico, Court Vernon, Michael McDowell, Brad Coleman, and Sage Karam. Many of these drivers have gone on to win in upper level open wheel, stock car, and sports car races all over the world. “We are proud to offer these free tests to deserving drivers who are competing right in our our neighborhood,” stated World Speed Operations Manager Mark Milazzo. “World Speed's headquarters are only a few hundred feet from the Jim Russell International Karting Center, and competitors can stop by anytime to check out our team, and the cars that we compete with.”

After a long, wet, and cold winter, the 2011 Red Line Oil Karting Championship (RLOKC) will get under way this weekend on the National track configuration at the Jim Russell International Karting Center at Infineon Raceway. With more classes, more Saturday practice and expected larger Rotax fields, 2011 looks to be a return to large fields and great racing at one the west coast's premier kart track.

The Formula Car Challenge is an officially sanctioned series of NASA Pro Racing. There are multiple regional championships, and a triple header national championship. The winner of the national event qualifies to become a Mazda factory driver through the Mazdaspeed Driver Development program.
