The gum thing sort of gives new meaning to the old question.......Did you bring enough for the whole class?

And for those who will go to any length to cheat legal.......at the next race those still in possession of their gum are encouraged to sneak up behind JRII's car while it's sitting on grid and dispose of their gum under his tires so that when the grid worker motions him to go his car will be stuck in place

My point wasn't to make it about winning. I completely get the concept of having the old school FF race. I guess my only point I was trying to make (and I realize it takes the 'old' part out of it) was to allow Honda's for the sake of numbers. I for one love to race against large fields. If I am at the front, the back, or somewhere in the middle, I would rather race against 30 cars than 3 if given the opportunity. I just hate seeing anything that excludes people from showing up. Flame away!

Hondas are free to race Formula F at the ARRC. We have 17 interested Kents at the moment. If we let Hondas in most of those would loose interest and we'd be back to a 5 car field. Again, this is the early stages of planning a Formula Ford 1600 race on treaded tires. Simple as that!

    Default Car counts.

Here's my idea on how to get car counts.
Allow guys like myself that haven't raced much since the 40th to buy a 1 event competition license without any hassle nor medical forms or any other hoopla that I don't want to go though to race 1 event a year. Pay a hot nurse to give a once over for the old dudes.

    Default How many groups?

Would all the variations of FF & CFF be racing in the same group?

Road Atlanta and the ARRC are on my bucket list, and I'd love to bring the DB1/Honda to an event that has high FF/CFF count. Would we all be in one group, or split up?

EDIT: based on the 2014 grouping, looks like all FF variants are put into the same group.

    Hi Jon,
At the moment this is just an idea, so nothing is set in stone but Lee and I plan to firm up our ideas next week.

If I can get the Swift back together I'm in. Are Toyo's radials?

    Joe,

Great news, and yes, the Toyos are radials. Maybe some of the guys with experience on them can throw some pointers out there closer to the time.

Hint: they need high slip angles. But then you old British racers are already used to a bit of sliding about. More fun than slicks, IMO.

Any new developments/rumors?? DUFFUS adding the ARRC to the 2015 Schedule? A DUFFUS Toyo series perhaps?

If you would like to see some old fords on proper treaded tyres check out our series vids.

Good luck with organising your race for old fords on treaded tyres. Hope you get grids like these for our biggest event last year for pre 72 FF1600s.

    Default Thanks

Yes alignment help would be welcome once we get closer, I know the pro 2000 guys ran much more camber when they were running radials, should be interesting with the Swift considering it was never designed to run skinny treaded tires unlike most of the imports. A grid like at the 40th would be a blast, nothing like having a DNF in qualifying and having 140 plus cars to try to pass! Thanks for organizing!

Default old school formula ford race

Just as a thought, the northeast already has what I think is a very successful and well run vintage (old school ) series with VRG.
Maybe people should be talking to them.
They had a 3 race series to celebrate the 45th that was well attended.
32 cars for Summit in May, 22 at Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix at PIRC and 17 at NJMSP in Sept. They also have rounds at VIR,Thompson and the Glen.
The cars run to Monosposto rules on treaded tires.
The only difference between racing with them and the SCCA competition wise, is that you better be well alongside the car you are passing as any car to car contact due to a low probablity move will not be tolerated.
    I'd say that seems fair.
There are some other things such as your fast lap of any session always sets the grid no matter what your finishing position. That takes some getting used to, but can make things more challenging trying to gain position during the race if the 2 are different.

    Hi Mike,
You're right, this could be a lot of fun judging by the interest Lee and I have had. We're working out the details now, but it would be great to see you at Road Atlanta at next years ARRC.

We offer a similar license arrangement in Arizona for returning from "retirement" or visiting racers. You are welcome to come play in our sandbox.
