Default Old School Formula Ford Race?

So, as some will know, Ben Cooper and myself are putting together Formula Fords to go out and have a bit of fun in. As a bit of a kick up the arse to actually finish these things we recently agreed to go to the ARRC in 2015 and have an old school UK style race together for old times sake, Ford Engines, treaded tires etc...

With all of the recent talk we thought we might see if anyone cared to join us, leave your fancy fan cooled, fuel injected motors at home, ditch the slicks, strap on some Toyo's and go out and have some fun.

If we get some cars together I might even put up some prizes, If it's just me and Ben I would be writing the check to myself!!

    So, Who fancies it?

Why not open engine (ie Honda or Ford) with hard compound slicks so you can join the rest of the CF's that show up instead of segmenting an already small group?

Because this is a Formula Ford race on treaded tires. Nothing against the Honda's its just not what we're trying to do.

Yeah, Ben and I are doing this anyway for a bit of fun, we just thought with all the talk why not see if anyone else fancied joining in, no intention to segment anything.

Before my divorce-induced 5 year break from racing, the ATL Region had created FFX for the ARRC to allow any FF on non-stickies to join in. If the current ARRC allows FF, you guys (we) could be competing for the FFX title.

Since Lee and Ben are in charge, how about naming the tire to be used? Or set up a poll with a couple choices and a deadline for the final result?

    I hope to be there!

Guys, this is for fun. Strap on some Toyo's to your old Ford powered beater and come have a blast. No need to get into rules minutia and whatnot. Crappy tires. Ford. Fun. Done.

We did throw around the idea of using Avon ACB10's, the same as the Motherland, but with our Candaian friends using the Toyo we thought we might get a little more response by aligning with them.

Ben even wanted to go with Steel wheels, but I threw mine in a skip when we left California so we nixed that one, otherwise I may have won by default!!!!

We may mandate Big black numbers on white backgrounds though!!!!!

It's a long way away, but I will throw my hat in. I have been pushing the entire North American FF class go Toyo. I can't miss this race.

I would consider it if not for the Honda ban. Harder to change an engine than a set of tires.

    Stan,

I have a 1989 Mondiale that we've been restoring for the past 6 years!! This was the push to get it finished! We ran it at buttonwillow once and then took it down to the frame to fix all the problems. It is still a bare frame, better get busy!!

Sure, Reid, we all go 'old school' and we show up with club Kents, square tires, no fans, pump gas and you'll have a whizzer '92 VD with a grenade Curtis, cryo undies and some ceramic lined who knows what going on...

The only thing ceramic in my operation are the "fancy" bowls in the beater RV, and I am pretty sure they leach lead from the Chinese ceramic every time I use them.

The hope is that it will be awesome!!

I honestly don't know what your needs would be for licencing coming from Canada, hopefully someone can step in and help out with that. The ARRC is a regional race though so it shouldn't be too difficult I would assume.

To be honest I don't even have my licence yet so have a lot to figure out in this area myself!!

Default FF the way it was..........

Practice, qualify, race. Go to the pub. Same day. None of this 3 1/2 day time wasting.

If you waited a few laps for the race to 'develop' the others would be at the pub anyway.

It is like an SCCA regional event, so if you can do one of those, you can do the ARRC. It really is a great event, so if you can make it, it will be a memorable experience. Bring your buddies and you'll be talking about it with them for years.

They might still have the rule that says if you compete in the SCCA Runoffs in a class, you can't compete at the ARRC in the same class.

A few years ago Club Ford, Club Continental and Club S200 were strong classes at the ARRC. They've thinned out in recent years, which is too bad because it really is a great event. One aspect I really like is Greg Creamer's announcing. And the Atlanta Region knows how to do it right. It really makes you feel like you're at a special event.

I selfishly vote No. Road Atlanta is 45 minutes from my house. I'll tell you what, though. You are welcome to start an ARRC West event (I guess. I'm in no position to grant that right). :-)

Hey, we gave you west coasters one year for the Runoffs? Isn't that enough? I knew it. Give 'em an inch they'll take a mile.

All seriousness aside :-), I realize we are extremely lucky to have so many great tracks and events in SEDiv. The west coast (and mid-America) have some great tracks and events, too, but I don't envy the travel time many racers need to race.

Great wasn't it. On about going to the pub there was once a huge shunt at Donington Park where some of the car and the driver ended up in the beer garden at The Redgate Lodge, he didn't have far to walk for his first pint!!!

Edit, Just found the pictures, I seem to remember he knocked the light off the top of the Ambulance and landed next to some people who were having a quiet pint...
