    Default Brian Update

Brian has been cleared to resume eating regularly again, after having been limited to 1 solid meal with supervision. Also, Brian has been trying to get out of bed on his own... and while he isn't strong enough yet to walk on his own, just the fact that he's strong enough (both mentally and physically) to want to get up is great progress. Yesterday I actually spoke to him on the phone, he said only "Hey, What's up?" but he said it loudly and clearly and that's big too.

Thanks again to all of you for your support and well wishes.

    Default Major Update

Brian walked with assistance today! They got him up standing yesterday and today when they got him up he starting walking. He is even becoming himself again. He called one of the therapists a moron today after they tried to tell him what he wouldn't be able to do.. his exact words were "She's a moron, she doesn't know me at all." WTG little brother.

    Default Great news

I do not know our friends involved here but I am personally familiar with head trauma. A close family member was in a road accident 30 years ago. This progress is wonderful!! I wish I could of seen Brian's loved ones face when he mentioned "Mooran". That does not happen all that quick with these cases. Pray for short term memory retention and things will work out. Stay strong and he is in my prayers!

So, how is Brian doing ?
I have heard reliable reports that he is doing some talking and some walking , which are two very good things.
Ian !! If you are able, let us know how the kid is coming along...... and pass my regards on to him if you would.

    Default Brian Update

Brian is making fantastic progress! He gets up and walking with assistance a couple of times a day.. i have a short video clip of it that I will try and add to this post. He's been cleared to eat again and he is starting to be himself again. He called my parents late one night and asked them to come "break him outta here" and if they couldn't do it then to send my brother back to get him. He told me himself on the phone that he wants to be out in a couple of weeks (unlikely, but a good goal). He is speaking louder and more clearly, but still gets names confused. He also is having a problem with time, thinking at times that he's been in the hospital for more then 15 years. Besides the gaps in his memory he gets stronger everyday.

Thanks again to all of you for the well wishes

    Ian

    Default Another Brian Update

I spoke with my Mom this morning and they started Brian on going up and down stairs. He is down to needing the assistance of just 1 person to walk instead of 2, and the doctors think that Brian should be moved to a kind of halfway hospital within the next 5 weeks or so. The new hospital should be in Connecticut and be much more accessible to family and visitors.

Thanks again to all of you. Its a true testiment to the racing community as evidenced by the fact he has an entire board filled with cards full of best wishes.

    Default Brian Update

Brian has only 4 weeks left at Helen Hayes Hospital. He had the stomach tube removed, is back fully to a normal diet and can eat when he is hungry with no restrictions. In the next 4 weeks we are looking forward to him needing less and less help getting around and we are hoping that some of the memory stuff (names and dates) will start to come back or be relearned. I believe he is being moved to a hospital in CT (Gaylord) where he will be assisted further on his road to getting back to normal.

Thanks again to all of you for everything
