Thanks for all of the support, everyone. We really do appreciate it. I hope the sites become invaluable to everyone who uses them. Judging by the please to hurry while the sites were down, I think we are well on the way.

I have been told many times recently to make these forums subscription based, like a magazine, with a small yearly fee for use. This is something I do NOT want to do. It was never my intention to make a profit from the site(s), but in the 2-3 years that we have been around, the growth has been staggering and surprising, at best. The changes on all of the sites recently was not without reason. I think January showed more than 8 million hits, collectively. Crazy.

One suggestion I have been given is to open up a PayPal account, for voluntary donations to the system, so to speak. I think this will allow whomever wants to contribute, to do so at their own will, and in whatever means they feel comfortable with. This will ALL help keep things going. Please do know, that this does not imply any stock or ownership in the sites, but it is appreciated GREATLY.

Anyone who wishes to donate to the "cause" can do so via PayPal, please click the PayPal button on the left side of every forum page...

    <-------

Anything that comes into the sites, goes back into the sites, you can be sure of that. This is entirely voluntary. Nothing is expected from anyone.

Thanks for all of the support, everyone.

When you sign up for a Paypal account, your username is your e-mail address. You can use the payee's e-mail address in order to send or receive money. Pretty trick way to send money from your checking account or your credit card.

Oh, okay, we have to go to paypal.com and open an account to make the contribution!! I would urge all registered members to do so. Even a small contribution will go a long way toward supporting the site and assuring its continued growth and improvement.

I'm pretty sure that you don't even have to open an account to send money somewhere. I have used it on eBay auctions where the buyer/seller did not have an account and was able to send/receive money instantly.

Otherwise, it does function quite well as an online means of credit and checking transactions, cash and mail free.

BTW, thanks to all who have contributed so far. Your kindness is not going unnoticed. All who contribute will also see a special forum title in the next couple of days, too, regardless of the contribution to the sites.

July 1, 2003 - Hello, all! We would like to thank everyone who has contributed financially to these sites, via PayPal or snail mail. You have no idea how much every bit helps. Those of you who have donated, you will notice your membership title now as "Contributing Member." If there is anyone who has donated and does not show this title, please PM me immediately, and I will take care of it. Thanks again, everyone!

Hey Mike, I don't have a record of receiving your donation to the site, but while we were packing things up for the move into our new house, I did find two others in a stack of envelopes. Hopefully, my office in the new house will have better organization.

Our mail delivery in our area is absolutely pathetic, too, and we have had instances of things getting lost or delivered to the wrong locations. I can only hope that our new location is better with delivery. It can't get much worse.

For the next couple of weeks, the address of ApexSpeed will be the same as listed above. When we make the move, we'll be sure to post the new address, which may most likely be a P.O. Box for safety.

Yes I did, Tony, as well as a few others today. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this point to keeping this site rolling. Every bit is appreciated and put back into the sites in one form or another. You would believe the combined bandwidth that these forums are consuming in one month now. Looks like we are outgrowing our server space again.

Right now, we have plans to change the forum software to a database-driven, less resource intensive platform when we roll out the new look of the sites in the next couple of months. As soon as our house situation settles a bit, I plan on making the new forums and site a priority.

I think you guys are going to like what I have in store for the coming year.

If you want any input on board software, let me know. We did some analysis when I worked for Sportvision in Chicago, which produced the official websites and communities for several NFL, NHL & MLB teams. We had lots of problems with capacity & stability that we were able to work out.

Thanks Tim, we are looking seriously at phpBB which not only has a similar look and feel to UBB, but is not CGI/perL resource-intensive, thereby considerably cheaper to run and maintain as we expand our opportunities here. I have wanted a database solution for this site for a while now, and as we grow beyond my expectations (we were pushing 20+ gigs of bandwidth the first months of this year), we need to re-evaluate how we have things structured.

Not to mention the fact that it can have UBB membership lists and content ported over to the new boards without too much anxiety.

    Open source is noyce, too.

Yes, we had an unstable installation of a commercial product that we could kill easily with load testing. UBB would die prior to load saturation of the load test.

Email me offline if you like.

The artwork is going in this week for the new decals. They will not be cut vinyl, so they should work for everyone on every color car, too. I'll post more when I have them in my sweaty hands.

Yup, that address will be valid for some time. With the prices of comparable houses selling in our neighborhood compared to what we purchased for, we're not leaving this place for a LONG time.

I know this has been a very tough year for many of us including the most recent news from the Carters but Apexspeed is such a source of valuable info and a real "community" that we all must find a way to keep it going. Send what you can in the Christmas spirit. My contribution via Paypal is already on its' way to you.
