Default FC in-car footage

Buttonwillow 13ccw that the April 22-23 double national was run on. This track threw nearly everyone for a loop (literally).

This was taken in Saturday afternoon practice and is about 9 seconds slower than what I did in the Sunday's race. This is only my 6th session in the car since I got back into racing after a year and half off after a back injury.

This rollbar view is a little to high. Gives less a sensation of speed than you actually feel from the cockpit.

Default Two Laguna Seca FF/CF videos...

These two in-car videos are from the Group 4 (FF/CF/FV/F500) races at the SCCA regional held last weekend (4/23) at Laguna Seca.

I have a new rearward facing camera for this weekend to supplement the normal forward facing one. Not sure how to edit the video to get the full educational/entertainment value out of it…maybe split screen or picture in picture. Any suggestions appreciated.

This video is of a bit of a dustup at turn 11 on the penultimate lap with two of the three Porter Racing/Nosler Racing Swifts getting it wrong, possibly assisted by a trapped FV. Both views:

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...52127450326142

And here are the two starts (double race weekend) also from both views:

    Default Date error?

dereklola, not sure what you mean about running the August 2006 race. Is there an error somewhere in the descriptions? I can't seem to find it. Could you locate it again and post the URL, or tell me what the title is?

    Thanks

Tom - second click on 'next video' brings up "Laguna Seca Regional SCCA, Group 4 Race, Tom Duncan Driver, August 2006, Started at the back of the pack, went well for a while .... got greedy".

    Default Fixed links

dereklola, thanks, I had not realized I had done that. Lets hope I am not accurately reporting the future.

Also, I fixed the links on the original posting to go to the correct videos. Not sure how the same video can have two names (only uploaded once) but Google Video does seem to change things around once in a while. A while back all the links were dead as Google changed part of their names! If you post on Google Video you should check the URL's once in a while.

    Default FC in Car -Portland

    Portland Raceway, NO CHICANE.

    Saturday May 6, 2006. RF00 Van Dieman.

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...977983&pl=true

First few laps I've ever done at Portland. Still trying to find the line and braking points. So there are a few flubbed moments in this video clip. The data system had me clocked at over 132 mph on the front straight and more than 125 mph on the back straight. This was with nearly full up wings.

This was a Cascade Sports Car Club event, their season opener. When I go back in a month for the SCCA weekend it'll be run with the chicane, which is a real damn shame as it is one hell of a rush going full blast down the front straightaway. This is what the racing rush is all about here!

The other red FC is Mark Belling (RF98), the orange RF97 is Nick Belling. Rough weekend as I only managed about 15 laps all weekend. These are some of the best laps I did all weekend. Still on the Hankook radials for these laps. Also had a ride height issue so I did a bit of bottoming out and actually manage to rub off some of the diffuser in the process. The vibration effect is exactly what I saw in the car.

The Portland Raceway is now under threat by the Portland City Council who wants to turn the raceway into a (can you believe this?) another SHOPPING MALL!!! Or something else totally ludicrous and completely anal.

Come up and get the rush while you still can. Maybe gone by tomorrow.

All these videos are best watched in "original" size mode.

I use a helmet camera from helmetcamera.com. I think this is a 480 line resolution bullet camera. I bought it back in early 2001 so it could be a 380 line. They have up to 560 line resolution. Originally, I mounted it on the side of my helmet and it gave a good driver's perspective. But now that that's been banned by the SCCA I mount it on the rollbar using a camera mount from the chase cam guys. I then run a line from the helmet camera to the camcorder mounted in the nose of my car.

I find this configuration to be a real pain and on several occasions I have ended up with no video for various reasons. I am seriously looking at designing my own fully enclosed in car system that mounts onto any formula car roll bar and where a crew member standing next to the car can just push a button to activate it.

Wish I knew if there was a real market for this sort of thing. Would make the effort of designing it worthwhile.

The next video I hope to post is Pacific Raceway in Seattle. I have to figure out what the static issue with the remote mike is. There was a lot of extra static in the Portland and Buttonwillow videos.

    Here's the helmet camera website.

There's a good selection of track video at http://www.trackvision.net/gallery.php

I need to post my video from the CMP race last weekend, but there are plenty of others, including some very capable drivers.

Default Another in-car video from Tom Duncan

I have just posted on Google another moderately interesting in-car video from last weekends regional race at Infineon Raceway (AKA Sears Point). I managed to take the pole position, then throw it away on the second lap, then crawl back up to second.

With all the FF/CF/FC/other race car drivers with video cameras in their cars out there I am a little surprised we are not seeing more postings here...

    Default 2006 Season Highlights Video

Okay, so I condensed a year of in-car footage into a four-minute video with music. Clips include Laguna Seca, Sears Point (Infineon), and Thunderhill. It's a first attempt, so don't be too hard on me. My editing is about as good as my driving.

I don't know if this will help but it was about a 15 minute explanation of the differences between a McLaren F1, a Porsche 928 and (I think) a Ford Escort. The demonstrration was at a circuit (Brands Hatch I believe) where the Escort takes off while Niki is talking about the cars. Then John Watson takes off in the Porsche about 30 seconds later. Niki is puttig on his helemt. He gets in the car, starts up and trakes ff in pursuit, crossing the finish line just in front of both of the other cars. Somewehat interesting. Check Youtube?

    Default Formula First at Grattan

It most likely too slow for most of you , but i figure what the heck.

I posted this single lap at Grattan Raceway outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan of an Evolution (built by Larry Campbell of brake rotor fame) Formula First on Youtube. The power lead shorted after one lap or we would have more laps to choose from. It's the outlap of the first session on 18 heat cycle tires (won the afternoon race on them).

About Us
Since 2000, ApexSpeed.com has been the go-to place for amateur road racing enthusiasts, bringing together a friendly community of racers, fans, and industry professionals. We're all about creating a space where people can connect, share knowledge, and exchange parts and vehicles, with a focus on specific race cars, classes, series, and events. Our community includes all major purpose-built road racing classes, like the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and various pro series across North America and beyond. At ApexSpeed, we're passionate about amateur motorsports and are dedicated to helping our community have fun and grow while creating lasting memories on and off the track.
