Default A free photography lesson for you all

Cameras can be quite confusing. The number of options available to the DSLR user these days is incredible, and making the proper selection in term of body and lens can often be overwhelming.

Frequently, people will ask me what focal length lens they should buy. It's hard to imagine what 300mm looks like through a camera body, compared to say, 100mm or even 40mm. It's difficult to put into words how much zoom 300mm offers compared to another focal length. It is best shown by pictures!

Offered below is an example to help you make an educated decision when purchasing a camera lens. These two separate photos were taken at two different focal lengths, 40mm and 300mm, from the exact same shooting location. I did not crop either photo. It also shows the great versatility of the Canon 28-300mm L lens.

Photo #1 - Taken at 40mm

Photo #2 - Taken at 300mm

I hope this small lesson has been informative and helpful!

Love this explanation of focal length good thing the depth of field doesn't interfere with the 300mm at that distance since telephoto lenses have less depth of field. Hopefully I will own a professional 200mm telephoto lens at least here soon.

That was truly Laugh Out Loud funny. The visible screen/scroll factor was spot on. Thank you.

My wife asked what was so funny and I quickly minimized the screen and responded unconvincingly, "nuthin", like I was caught with a hand in the cookie jar.

Mr. Valet:

As someone whose professional training was in clinical psychology I can see that you have some serious problems.

I can help you.

Please contact me privately and I will supply an account number into which you will submit a retainer of $50K and we will begin your therapy.

With your obviously advanced stage of disturbance I would expect that several such deposits will be needed before we can successfully rid you of your perversions.

Yours in total professionalism,

ms

Thank you for the intro to photography lesson. Not to sound too critical of a professors' work, however this may be an instance where it may have been desireable to utilize more bokeh; you really don't need those viewing your work to be distracted by superfluous objects. Don't you have a 1.4 lens of sufficient focal length?

As great as this is....I live in South Carolina. We are almost always in the bottom 3-5 for education in the country. I don't think I grasped the lesson you were trying to teach. I think more pictures would help clear things up for me.

Those are them funny lookin' Canadian bucks, right?

I have a couple of those things laying around here somewhere. 50K of them things would take up a lot of room. Real folding money to the right person (me) is the only way you're gonna get cured.

I should also warn you: My daughter is a police person. She's armed and doesn't take well to people not paying their due respects to her graybeard dad.

You best come up with that retainer soon or I'm gonna have to let my munchkin know you're dissin' her dad.

And here's a proper photo lesson for all of you out there......

I noticed that Meghan Sauce has enough class to stay the heck away from this thread...
