A buddy of mine will be running his vintage FF at Hallett in a few weeks with CVAR. He needs a good place to start with respect to ratios.
This is what I have been told:
9.31 R/P
17-34, 19-31, 21-29, 21-25
10.31 R/P
16-36, 18-33, 20-31, and 22-29.
Are these ratios close?
Yes, at least without checking tire diameters. They are close to what I ran with 22.5 inch diameter tires in CF. I did change, though. I sent you an e-mail.

I've used 18:34, 20:30, 22:29, 23:27 sucessfully (9:31 w/ 22.5" rears)
What would be the best gears (9/31) for Savannah?
J-Guy
savannah >>>here's something 20/32 21/30 24/28 25/25
here's something else...run a taller first than above, just a tooth or two under the second ratio...use it as an alternative second if you're slowed a little by traffic in turns 5-6 ..also get a one tooth under fourth - if the wind is coming strong from the west, run it

Need FF gearing suggestions for the Shenandoah circuit at Summit Point for a 10:31 final drive ratio. If you do not have it for a 10;31, I can convert if you specify what FDR it is for.

I'm hoping to go to this track. Any NorCal guys care to share gearing? I have a 10:31 R&P in my Swift but I can easily convert from 9:31 info.

Start with the gears you run on the long course at Bwillow but one tooth shorter in 4th. You may need to adjust 3rd to get a good pull up the hill into the carousel.
Awesome thread! I am looking for FF1600 gearing (10:31 R&P) for the following tracks:
1. Lime Rock ParkAny help is better than none. Thanks.
2. Summit Point (I saw numerous requests with no answers)
3. Pocono (All courses if possible)
4. VIR

Here's a gearing suggestion for Summit (I won't say that this is the
best, but it is what's currently in my car with a 10:31 CWP):
1st = 17:33
2nd = 20:30
3rd = 22:28
4th = 24:27
John
Thanks John, now if only i could get the gearing for Lime Rock Park. I am going to try to make it to the June, July, and August regionals.

Garey, with my DB1 and a 9:31, I run the following:
18:33
21:31
23:29
25:27

There will be a crowd. 14 CFs and 14 FFs registered. Add in 18 Vees + 1 F5.
The Vees and F5 have a separate qual and split start.

Any suggestions?
Also - I cannot locate the gearing suggestions on the Taylor website despite a number of people referencing Craigs list. Can someone post a link or are they in his catalogue?
Thanks.

Hi all!
I'm running CF at Buttonwillow later this month. My car has a 9:31 CWP, and we run on American Racers.
Anyone have a starting point for me?
Thanks in advance!
Brad
Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn.

I'm just back from driving CMP full course for the first time. I found that for a 1970 Vintage FF1600 with 9/31, that 18/33, 21/31, 23/29, 24/27 worked very well. I'm sure current chassis might need more top end. This setup gives you speeds of about 72, 90, 105, and 118. I got down to 1:48 on year old Hoosiers but feel like 1:46's on fresh tires would be easy.
Thanks, Roland.Originally Posted by Roland V. Johnson

I don't think we are running the bus stop. Fontana is a 25 / 25 top. Gearing really depends on your engine and driving style also. Many of the older engines do not have power on the top end.

My bad..........I guess we are running the bus stop now.
17 / 34, 20 / 32, 22 / 29, 24 / 27. Top could be 24 / 28.

I am going to Pocono's long course on May 13th for the Northern New Jersey Regional. I was wondering if anyone knows the correct gearing or have any tips about the proper gearing. Thanks

Pocono, I use 19:31, 21:29, 23:27, 25:25. The same gears as I use at Summit Point, you could probably stand a tooth or two lower on 1st to help get out of Devil's Elbow.

I forgot to mention that i have a 10:31 R&P, sorry.

Wondering what the NHIS gears are?
As the full course has added some stuff in recent years, what is the 'current suggestion' for VIR for a 9-31? Thanks, Alan
Hey folks,
Any chance I could get some confirmation/clarification on the Grattan gears?
Club Ford, Hoosier R60s, 9:31 R&P
In the thread Jonathan linked above, Jason Byers suggested 17/34, 19/31, 21/29 & 23/27 for a 10:31 R&P, and that converts approximately to
18/32, 21/31, 23/28, 25/27 for a 9:31 R&P
Jake's book suggests 20:32, 22:29, 24:27, 26:26 for a 9:31 which is way off the ratios above (but the ratios Jake suggested for 10:31 - 18:32, 21:30, 23:29, 25:27 - are almost an exact match).
Any help appreciated. I'm hoping to get the right gears into the box this weekend.
Thanks,
Erik
Hey Everyone
The proper gears for Kershaw (CMP) would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to run our Club Ford there but have no idea what happened to the notes that had the gears on them. We run a 9:31 diff but any gears will do just let me know if you are using a 10:31 or 9:31
Thanks
Andy
[SIZE=1]I have this for Kershaw

I am looking for suggestions for FF 10:31 gears for Heartland Park Topeka, as being run this coming weekend in the Run Offs configuration. I presume others may be interested in this information, too.

Anyone have suggestions for CF gears for Charlotte Motor Speedway? Oh, I forgot. It's Lowe's these days. Well, I'm not as young as I used to be. Can't wait to see if I still need to raise the ride height to cure the bump out of NASCAR 4. Only place we ever raised it. Back in the Paleolithic era. Heck, I even raced there in the last ice age - it snowed at a spring national.
JG
I plan for the Glen school in Sept. I sent an email to SCCA asking if it was long or short course? Anyone know?
The "book" only has WG for the short course. What are the long gears 9:31?
Lola,
I used 20:31, 22:29, 24:28, 25:26 in my club ford and ran a 2:12-ish (not-so-great) best on the long course. Some will say to run a 1 to 1 gear for the back straight, but my motor couldn't pull it.
1st for the Toe
2nd for the Ninety, the Heel and the "off camber", maybe the Inner Loop in traffic, probably the Laces
3rd for Turn 2, Inner and Outer Loop, maybe Laces if you "get it" (I don't), and Turns 10 and 11.
I figure if I post this, someone might tell me how I have it all wrong...
Which event will you be doing there?
- Erik
Edit - the ratios above are for a 9:31 R&P
