    Default fuel cell location

LolaT440 and I were chatting off-list and the question of fuel cell location came up. My Lola T440 has a current SCCA annual and has the cell in the original location in the right hand sidepod. It's full enclosed in aluminium of course. The question is if there is a rule or interpretation of a rule that governs where the cell can be located. I coudn't find one...

The Lola T440 also has a make-up tank under the oil tank behind the driver, both of which are in the drivers compartment. any rules that would affect this?

    Thanks, brian

    Brian,
If I recall correctly, the GCR requires the fuel cell to be enclosed in 0.060" (about 1.5mm) thick aluminium enclosure around the cell. There is an alternate thickness of steel that may be used, but the thickness escapes me.

I had an old Lola when that rule came into effect and it had the same surge tank and no one ever said boo about it. It was behind the firewall as opposes to in the cockpit proper.
