An autocross friend is going thru his new ( to him) car and today finally agreed that the ring and pinion is set up wrong ( it has about .130 backlash!) He needs someone relatively close ( he's in Indianapolis) to go thru the box top to bottom.

Any recommendations?

If you can't find someone local, I recommend he send it to Scott Young at Scott Young Enterprises in Texas. He is the best! Use a 48qt. cooler as a shipping container.

If it has that much backlash I would not be surprised if the R&P is toast. Has he remove a side cover to take a look inside?

Hasn't gone that far yet, but I'll be taking a look at it once he gets the box out. It could very well be toast, but that of course will depend on how much it has been run - he might get lucky.

We might has a local guy who can do it, but it will be a day or 2 before we get his contact # - he used to do Indy gearboxes, and then went on to a lot of vintage stuff. Another friend, who used to do TWR Jaguars gearboxes, sold all of his tools 6 months ago!
