    Default Dueling DIpsticks

Okay, this is a sure sign of senility, but I have 2 notes on oil for my swift DB-1, and two dipsticks that don't seem to agree with either oil amount. I think I had originally raced with 4 quarts of oil, but sometime later have a note to use 5 qts. I didn't write down a reason.

So my question is, how much oil do people put in their Swifts in an oil change? 4 qts? 5 qts?

Jay Ivey told me to put enough in so that about 1/8 to 1/4 quart came out to puke tank after a session. My practice has been to add until that much came out, then leave for the rest of the weekend. I end up adding 1/4 to 1/2 quart before first session, then add 1/4 quarts till I'm back in the "right" place.

Min of 5 and then add until the level is (via notes) “just at the shelf at warm idle when looking into the adapter fill port”. I need to confirm the source of the above quote, but I seem to recall it was part of the original DB1 set up notes…

As Garey points out, you overfill it and after a session, you have your proper level. Virtually every car/engine has it's unique proper level so similar cars are just a guideline. It is not how much you put in, but how much stays in.

And how much is necessary to avoid oil starvation. Hopefully you never learn that by having it.

Wow, wasn't expecting anything so complex. Apparently I have been lucky so far. I'll start with 5 and work up [or down].
    Thanks everyone!

    Complex?

All you are figuring out is whether to add 100 or 200ml after every session. It is the most important but easiest task you have at the race track.

This is part of my every session routine, probably to a fault. Add a shot to the oil tank and drain the catch tank...every session.
