    Post Lola 540 HU-1 CF

Car is ready to race--it was prepped to run at the Ozarks last October but I had to cancel at the last moment. Prep included full allignment and scaling. Car is setup (and tested) to run Hoosier treds.

Engine is a strong uprated Kent with @ 2 hours since Racing Services rebuild. It has the SCCA forged crank and pistons, a good old Farley steel head and Farley exhaust.

Sabelts are good thru 2026, cell was checked and had new foam 2022, and a wired-in AMB transponder is included. Car comes with 8 Revolutions and 4 steel wheels, 10 ratios total, a new nose and splitter [the one on the car needs some tlc but is usable], and some running spares and alternate springs, etc.

It is not concourse but a reliable solid, straight, quick runner. It's also one of the roomier FFs from the era.

Asking $15K. Car is in St Louis. For more detail please email Marchracer@hotmail.com, or call Scott Livingston at (314 750-0231Marchracer@hotmail.com

    Default Lola 540

The 540 was run in MidDiv SCCA events thru the 90s, mostly at Gateway, by St louisan Mike Frye. In @ 2000 Mike parked the car because of a medical issue, apparently intending to return to racing. He never did--I bought the car from his widow in 2019, by which time the logbooks and all other records were lost.

We first ran the car in the 50th FF festival, then did 6 more weekends at Hallett, Blackhawk, Grattan and Gateway thru 2021. Last season I ran once at Blackhawk with the updated engine which is in it now.

It might be possible to determine the original owner and confirm the chassis number from the SCCA roll hoop stamp, which is 19 29 74. I have not tried. The only other bit of info I have on it's history comes from John Goodman, a FF driver from the day who knew Mike better than I. John remembers that the chassis was damaged at some point and sent to Pat Prince for repair; this would account for a splice in the top rail of the engine bay on one side.

Was last years Blackhawk event the October 2021 VSCDA? I was there with a Lola T340 that I recently restored. (In primer, the “Turd Ferguson” car with the for sale signs.) I remember a black T540.
I wonder if this car is the former Chris Kniefel car. (Once the Chief Steward for CART.) In 1978, he arrived at a drivers school at RA with a then brand new T540. It was just out and it was the first time any of us saw one for the first time.

I just looked it up, and SCCA Division #19 is Cal Club. (From the number stamped onto the roll hoop.) This suggests to me that this may not be the Kniefel car I was thinking about.

    Very nice car,
I am definitely interested. You do have a logbook. It is SCCA legal? What size are you if u don't mind.
    I fit well in a Lola T342.
By the photos posted it may fail the broomstick test at tech.

    thanks, John

    John,
If it hasn’t been tampered with, it should be SCCA legal. If you fit well in a T342, you’ll have no issues in a T540. They’re about as roomy a FF as ever built.

I have a 342 and a 540E. If you fit in the 342, you will swim in the 540.
