For Sale 1971 LOTUS 69 Formula Ford for sale

    SOLD

Arguably the most well restored, genuine Lotus 69 Formula Ford in existence.

The Lotus 69 was the last race car produced for private customers by Lotus Components. Designed by Dave Baldwin, it raced in all single seat formulae of its day, from F1 to Formula Ford. Fewer than 20 Lotus 69FFs were made. Their rigid and narrow space frame, long wheel base and wide stance make it the most sought after Historic Formula Ford race car.

Still retaining its original Lotus Components chassis tag (7169/22FF), Arch Motors chassis stamp (AM-34) and Lotus-Holbay cam cover, this car is the real deal.

A no expense spared restoration was undertaken by Dennison International Motorsports. Thoroughly crack checked, all critical components were replaced or replated. The fuel bladder, fire system, racing harness, starter, springs, shocks, plumbing, switchgear and other components were also replaced during the restoration. Painted in the Gold Leaf Lotus livery as used on the works Lotus 69 F3, the car is ready to be shaken down by a new owner and run in anger at the front of any Historic Formula Ford grid.

    Details:

Engine: Ford Kent crossflow motor race prepared by Ivey Engines. Dyno testing showed 110.8 HP and 92.3 Ft. lbs. of torq @ 6,300 RPM. Only two hours of test and setup time on the motor since rebuilt in 2006.

    Gearbox: Hewland Mk. 8

Misc: Koni shocks, Smiths gauges, Tilton starter and brake bias adjuster, new Fuel Safe bladder installed (2007) and Willans harness (2008), Halon electronic fire system.

Spares: Large assortment of spares including extra body panels, etc.

Documentation: Invoices for parts and labor incurred during the comprehensive restoration totaling well in excess of $125K. Dyno sheets for current engine, VARA and SCCA competition log books, original Lotus 69 factory brochures, copies of correspondence between previous owners/sellers, period magazines, chassis blueprint, books and more.

    Location: Washington State, U.S.A.

The Lotus 69 has always epitomized "racing car" for me. This looks like a remarkable example.

    Nice job on the restoration!

It's hard to tell from the image, but it looks like you may be running the original oil filter housing; kudos for that. I do the same on mine. What filter element to you use? I am importing a diesel BMW filter from Europe, but it's a hassle to import.

    Thanks for the kudos.

It's been ages since I bought the filter housing and installed the filter element. I think there were a bunch of filter elements to choose from but we went with the Baldwin B176.

    Cheers,

    Keith
