At the end of the season (Oct 18), I will have two Mygale-Honda F1600/FF cars for sale.
We lost track of how many wins, but over 20 in the last 2 years, including June Sprints (1 each), the Runoffs, and the F1600 championship. Quicksilver engines, blueprinted transmissions serviced by WRD. Aim MXL dash systems. Custom shocks, custom ARBs, custom front suspension, custom radiators. No non-driver induced DNFs yet in 2021 or 2022. Each comes with 12 gearsets, 10 wheels including mounted rains.
The cars ran as #6 and #52 in 2020, and #43 and #01 in 2021, #18 and #01 in 2022. $165K for the pair.

What's next for Rice Race Prep?

I have other projects calling, so I would not be adverse to downscaling this part of my business.
I just believe this is the perfect time to sell. The class is holding its own in SCCA and booming in FRP. I certainly have never had this level of interest before. If the cars are not the two fastest in the country, they are two of the best. If someone wants to get into the racehire business, or enter the class at the top, then this is an opportunity to do that.

Update:

We had drivers lining up to race with us, so we decided to continue for another season, but I am looking to shut down my arrive-n-drive operation at the end of the 2022 season. I no longer have the time to commit. I would love to find someone who wants to operate a successful professional F1600 team. I can put together a turnkey package with two cars, spares, spare engine, gearsets, tools, support equipment, and our legacy of data and video. Future engineering and management assistance can be negotiated. While there are still 7 months until the package would be available, the new buyer may want to learn the business by being involved in our 2022 process.

I have had some interest about "taking over the team" but regardless, come October, both cars will be for sale. All our cars ran in the top 10 at the first FRP event with the #01 (former #6) taking pole and a pair of wins. If a new Spectrum costs $78K, then similar cost for a fully developed race/championship winning Mygale with extra gears and extra wheels, would seem to be a fair price. The cars have exceptional handling which can be observed by viewing the video in the CMP F1600 thread.

Yes, as I prepare to retire from the racehire business, Everything I own is for sale. Both cars have won more than a dozen SCCA or F1600 events, and are poised to win some more. Available individually, as a pair, or as a "starter team". Both cars finished 1-2 in all 3 F1600 races at Autobahn last weekend. Car #18 won one and the #01 the other two. in race 2, they were 15 seconds clear of 3rd place. Car #18 is available for RaceHire at Summit Point and PIRC if someone wants to sample. If you purchase a car by Nov 1, I will apply 1/3rd the racehire fee to the purchase price. It is unfortunate that no one has yet emerged to take over the RiceRace team. I have several drivers looking for a 2023 F1600 ride that could be potential customers for a new team owner.

Both cars will be at the VIR Runoffs, one in use, one as a spare. As the F1600 series wraps up on Oct 16, I will consider selling the cars individually at that time.


The first car sold will be the car that is currently leading the F1600 championship driven my Thomas Schrage. The #01 was previously campaigned as the #6 driven by Simon Sikes. The car won the 50th FF birthday party at Road Atlanta, the 2020 SCCA Runoffs, and the 2020 F1600 championship. I have lost track but it must have 20+ wins in the past 3 years. It is Quicksilver powered and has a transmission by Lee Williams. It has some custom mods including Alec Purdy revised front suspension geometry, driver-adjustable ARBs, and Rice piston valving within Penske shock hardware. It also has custom single-pass radiators and an Aim MXL dash with GPS. With 3 sets of wheels, including mounted rains on one set, and 12 gearsets, the price is $75K.

These look like gorgeous cars but it is clear from the lack of interest over more than a year that these have been for sale that there is no market for even the best-prepared Formula Fords at anywhere near $75k+ apiece.

I am sure many would love to own these cars, so I imagine that all it will take is a sharper price to find a new home for these beauties.

Considering that I referred a grand total of *one* prospective buyer to this offering, and that he seriously considered buying the entire team, I’d call that good odds that someone out there will jump on this.

One could run these for three years, make money on arrive-and-drives, and probably re-sell it for close to the price offered today.

Someone needs to jump in, and likely will. Anyone who’s seen Rice Racing on track has to be impressed. I would do it if having the money and looking to run such a program.

Thanks for the commentary guys. There have been several new Spectrum cars sold in the last year, that when fully equipped, will be six figures or more, which would be typical of any new formula car built in today's times. I think my cars are excellent value in that context, so have been priced accordingly. I am not any duress to sell so will continue with this price structure and hope that someone considering a new car build will consider this option. If I was in the market, I certainly know the route I would select.

The 2nd car is virtually identical but with the capability for larger drivers (6-3+). Previously #06 and #52, it now races with #18, and has won races with Braden Eves, Elliott Budzinski, Colin Mullan, Jackson Lee, Misha Goikhberg, Trey Burke, Alex Scaler, and Simon Sikes. It is Quicksilver powered and has a transmission by Lee Williams. As a team owner, albeit of a different chassis, I can tell those that may think prices of cars of this level seem high are mistaken. Our cars from the factory cost about this amount new, then we spend years massaging them, developing them and improving them. Years of development and trial and error can cost plenty of $$. Stepping into a team owner position with two winning cars, data and track notes from a winning team is something that is very rare and an exceptional opportunity if you are thinking of making the leap. I am sorry that we did not get a chance to go race with FRP and its teams this past season and doubly sorry to have missed racing against the RRT.

I am concerned that "recruiting" season is in full swing, and potential buyers are missing out on the critical time in the racehire business, so I have revised my sale/racehire/retirement plan. I will stay involved on a reduced scale and offer a 2023 technical support program for the buyers who will race on the East Coast and F1600 events.

The 01 was numbered 32 and had a strong Runoff performance to a silver medal. This was typical of our cars, as a good young driver did 3 test sessions, then qualified P6, and raced to a strong 2nd place at the Runoffs, despite never driving any FF in the rain before.

Both cars will be in action next week at PIRC, and available there after. As previously announced, both cars will be pulled from active use, and two other Mygales will be used for racehire in 2023 as we downsize the RiceRace operation.

I will entertain offers for either or both cars, with different packages and levels of support. Again, as previously announced, engineering support is available for buyers who will be racing in F1600 series or select SCCA events on the east coast.

One SCCA race at Laguna earlier this year there were I think 3 FF entries but normally there are less than ten without looking it up. And that often includes a group of good guys that tow 4-500 miles one way.
The Runoffs had 13 entries.
Not sure if that is relevant to your efforts to sell the cars.

My weather forecast shows highs of 60 degrees for the final F1600 event (24 entries). We are looking forward to a great weekend with great racing at a really fun race track. At the previous event at PIRC, we had the top 19 cars qualify within 4 seconds of pole time.

I am turning over some of my fleet and am quite comfortable with my pricing and the market place. Comparing the apples and oranges of various race series is not required, as I really don't see the apple or orange crowd looking to switch fruit baskets. That may be a topic for it's own thread.

The cars are for sale with no real timeline. I can package to suit potential buyer's needs and I can provide ongoing tech support to the buyers. I believe our East Coast (US and Canada) F1600 and FF racing is the best junior OW racing in North America and will do what I can to help others get involved.

So, yes the team is still for sale, but transfer would be delayed until next fall. This gives potential buyers the opportunity to be involved in operations, which is probably best for them anyway.

I will start another ad for the one car that is still for sale. That is our "winningest" car as used by Simon Sikes in 2020, and Thomas Schrage much of this year.
