Socks. Yes Socks. I've tried several different brands and they get all stretched out - the elastic fails.
Washing cold, air dried. My ankles aren't stretching them out.

any recommendations on brands that last?

My Nomex socks tops have gotten stretched out over time. I ignore it - as the stretch cuff at the bottom of the leg on the fire suit covers up the top of the sock and a little of the top of the shoe anyway
For what it's worth....at the end of one of the SARRC races years ago.....at impound......one of the inspecting Stewards said to everyone, "OK, take off your shoes!" .....those found not wearing Nomex socks were DQ'd !!!
I've had similar experiences with Nomex socks.. but they have still lasted over 20 years . I recently purchased some CarbonX socks from Summit Racing and they seem to be holding up better .. but I have quite a few years to go before I reach the age of the Nomex stuff.

I had a similar problem with crew-length socks.
Then I switched to the calf-length Sparco RW-9 Nomex compression socks. I haven't had any problems with them stretching out or falling down. However, I did let my toenails get a little long and wore a hole into one of the socks, which I then repaired with some Nomex thread.

I met Terri from PXP racewear at the SVRA Indianapolis race a few years back. I really like her products. The socks don't stretch out and do stay up. Her products are all I buy for flame retardant underwear these days. The fabric doesn't fade like carbonx.

PXP, like CarbonX, is far more comfortable than Nomex.

RQP 41199x socks from Racequip have held up great for me. I machine wash and air dry.

Just wanted to say, in case anyone is looking for Holiday gifts for racers, the PXP socks are so much better than anything else I've had.
I also bought one of their head socks and it is excellent. It seems a little small and I was wondering how I was going to get my fat head in it, but it fit - and it's really comfortable.
Plan to buy a couple more.
PXP are the absolute best and Terri is as knowledgeable as they come.
Great products

Another successful weekend with the PXP socks. Comfortable, dry.
I received a couple PXP balaclavas for Christmas.
Really nice. They fit smoothly.
When I need new underwear I am certainly going to try theirs.
Thanks for sharing the link; in addition to a wide range of socks in varying conditions - from RJS socks with nil for elastic, very rough, but bulletproof durability, to some others that seem like they died on the third use - even better they have female gear!! My wife's been limping along on some old Lady Eagle underwear, and now there's a chance to replace some of the more worn stuff and re-up her protection.
Interestingly, no tech inspector has ever failed her underwear during inspection...
...when two hands just aren't enough.
There is a glitch in the continuum...
