Question. What are the markings to tell what year a Citation or a Caracal was built?

You look in the LOG BOOK. There might be some really minor differences between most and some 'less minor' differences in different models of the same car (Mk1, MkII, in Caracals - 'B', 'C', and 'D' are significantly different). B cars are all VINTAGE by now I think .. with leading trailing arms (attach in front of the rear axle), 'C' cars are trailing trailing arms (attach behind the transaxle) and 'D' cars are similar but a narrower frame width at the front ( 'razor cars'). D cars also had/have bodywork that nearly encloses the driver's HEAD.. but many have been trimmed down for easier ingress and egress.
I've never owned either mark, but I believe that most of the Citation changes are, again, with the rear of the suspension. Early models had 'leading' trailing arms and later model have the trailing arms behind the rear axles.
Most cars should have a roll bar stamp on them - pounded into the roll bar in the neighborhood of the front or rear topmost brace - generally on the LEFT side. It will be a 2 digit number followed by a 3 digit number.. typically something like 03 - xxxx. The first 2 digits represent the REGION where the car was first tech'ed for log book issue. The 2nd number is generally a sequenced 'count' of all cars having their initial tech within that region - so the numbers can be anywhere between '1' and .. whatever number they have gotten up to by the time that car got it's first tech.. and log book issued.
Hope this helps. The designers of the Citations are active on this form and can certainly tell you more about those cars. Also, LOTS of owners of both types should add in more info.

None of the car that came out of Zink Manufacturing or Citation in Indiana have chassis identification numbers.
Once a log book was issued for a car, that was the only number that was important.
