Does anyone know the correct size and number of splines on the output shaft of the TRW steering box or know the correct Borgeson joint part number that would fit?
Thanks,
Matt

I made a broach for the stock VW box splines about 30 years ago. It is .564 od x 36 splines, if I counted them correctly.

Matt:
The TRW box has 63 splines as does the stock coupler

Their catalog is online.

Might I then suggest using the stock coupler without the donut. Bolt the two pieces together and put your universal on the steering shaft. That way you have multiple options .

Dietmar,
That is pretty much what I have now. If I’m at a dead end, I could just trim the clutch pedal since it is bigger than it needs to be. I was hoping that maybe there was a simple solution with an Apex joint or pin and block joint, but maybe I was being optimistic.

I found some dune buggy parts but hey are for 5/8 shafts and splines so close but no cigar, however you could machine down a stock piece and weld a stub shaft in of whatever you like.
or bolt the 2 pieces together weld them and cut off the ears if that is what is getting in the way?
or you could take.a small universal, machine it and drill and through bolt it on with a few tack welds for security. Not easy to change in a hurry, but I have seen pitman arms welded on before….
another reason I need a lathe….
